Kiribayama is now Kirishima! He made it to Ozeki in 2023.

Will he go the next step to Yokozuna in 2024?

Or will he crash and burn....?

He will win the January tournament and be a Yokozuna for March , giving up his first kimboshi to Onosato.

I think he wins in January and gets the rope. From there he will be the dominant rikishi for the year getting at least one other yusho and putting together the most wins for the year. (when I say dominant, I don't mean Hakuho style dominance, I mean he will be the best rikishi on the banzuke for 2024)

Makes yokozuna, but the very high win guesses will be wrong because he'll use that yokozuna status to sit a tournament out.

After getting the rope after Hatsu he can afford to go fishing now and then, so I don't think he'll get a 70+ score. Would be cool if he did though.

He will get the rope but not specifically after January. One kyujo will happen. Give up two kinboshi including one to Tamawashi

Yokozuna (fingers crossed for him not to be injured...) .

He will crash and burn.... his opponents! That comment alone should make me win any tiebreaker. :-P

Too many nerves to make it to Yokozuna this year, but will keep his Ozeki rank. No yushos, and sadly only 60 wins for the entire year (which isn't bad, to be honest). So, a solid year as an Ozeki.

he will make Yokozuna soon and get 69 wins in 2024

His lowest loss will be against Onosato  at M3

24 votes for this poll.

The vast majority of us think that he will take the tsuna rope this year - potentially after the current basho?

The bulk of us think that he will not lose to anyone below the joi-jin.

There is quite a spread for the predictions for his total number of wins, with the lower 60s seeming to be the main area - so an average of double digits per basho.

Well, well, well......  not the year that we were expecting for Kirishima!

1. I am fairly sure that he will be ranked at M1 or lower - and even if he were to be ranked at Komusubi (or keep his Sekiwake rank - no chance!), nobody guessed any of those possibilities. So, I guess the closest guesses are the four players who expected him to remain at Ozeki, and not get promoted to Yokozuna. They are Yarimotsu, just_some_guy, Jejima and Shatsume.

2. Kirishima lost to M8W Gonoyama on day 13 of the November 2024 basho.  Two people got this spot on....   just_some_guy and Tigerboy1966.  Tsuchinoninjin was one off and WAKATAKE is two off.

3. Kirishima had a total of 43 wins over the year. [(11-4), (5-10), (1-6-8), (8-7), (12-3) and (6-9)]. This number is 11 wins fewer than the lowest guess - so again, we were all way off.  I am the Yokozuna came closest with 54. Tsuchinoninjin was next with 55.  Ryoshishokunin came third and just_some_guy came fourth.

Based on that, the yusho (think roughly 12-3) goes to @just_some_guy (Yushowinner...) and the jun-yusho (10-5ish) goes to @Tsuchinoninjin   (Secondprize...).
