Between 2017 and 2022, Mitakeumi was basically a sanyaku rikishi, rising as far as Ozeki. But, in 2023, he spent the whole year outside of the sanyaku. How about 2024? Back to the top, or has he already settled into being a mid-division rikishi?

Please comment below, in case a tie-breaker is required to decide the yusho. (Any comment is automatically better than none.)

I don’t think he has the mental fortitude to make it back in 2024.

His fathers death and loss of Ozeki hit him pretty hard.

Unfortunately he’s settled into mid-megashira.

He was accused by many of jaking it at his heya. He didn't go all out in the daily workout.

I expect he bounces from low-to-mid Maegashira with an occasional joi appearance, but I don't see him returning to the Mitakeumi of old.

Mid-maegashira this year. Now he's over 30 I can't see him going back up into Sanyaku

I hope that he will bounce back a little during 2024, he should have a few more years in him. Not ozeki again but why not komusubi.

He is burning out, no special performances. One 10-5 basho but he is in danger of falling to juryo

I don't think that he is going to fall below his November 2023 rank, so I reckon that his January 2024 rank will be the lowest of the year. I should probably wait a couple of days to find out what that will be - but anyway, that is why I have gone for M7. He could well be a Komusubi, in the latter bashos of the year - possibly having that rank for January 2025.

20 voted in this poll - which makes the percentages very easy.

Over half of us think that he will be ranked at the bottom of Makunouchi for January 2025 - and a further vote for the bottom of Juryo!

All of us think that he will lose to someone near the bottom of Makunouchi, with a quarter of us thinking that he will lose at least once to a Juryo rikishi.

All of us think that he will go higher than his current rank on the banzuke, with 30% of us thinking that he will make it back to Komusubi.
