Sekitori Sweepstake - January 2024

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I am going to start the draw now. As usual, late entries are allowed, this time right up until the start of action of the Jonokuchi Division on Shonichi (Day 1).

So, the six players in Makunouchi and the two players in Juryo yet to sign up, you may still do so. It would also be very nice if we could have at least one more mae-zumo player to give Shiroioikami some competition. ;-)

Let's get the draw started!  Firstly let's find a Jonokuchi rikishi for our maezumo entrant....

Shiroioikami gets Amao.

Oh dear, looks like Amao has skipped the last two bashos, as he tumbles down the banzuke. I guess there is a good chance that we might have to make a redraw for Shiroioikami, after the shonichi torikumi comes out.

Next is Juryo.

First randomise the order for the sweepstake....

There were 10 items in your list. Here they are in random order:

  1. J1W Ganzohnesushi
  2. J5W Fashiriteta
  3. J3W Katooshu
  4. J4E Gaijingai
  5. J2W Meletyoshi
  6. J1E Kaminariyuki
  7. J2E Sakura
  8. J3E Rokudenashi
  9. J6E Kaiowaka
  10. J5E Ack!

Then the draw may commence....!

J4E Gaijingai has J4W Kotoeko.

Hopefully Kotoeko has recovered from his injury, and will be active.... otherwise there may be a redraw required.

J1E Kaminariyuki has M12W Myogiryu.

Myogiryu may be entering the twilight of his career - but he still has the ability.

J3E Rokudenashi taketh J1E Daiamami.

Yet again, Daiamami is hoping to return to Makunouchi. A KK from him this basho may see Rokudenashi go up a division too.

J6E Kaiowaka recruits O1W Kirishima.

That could be a BIG result for Kaiowaka. Kirishima is the reigning yusho champ - and is hoping for a repeat to get promoted to Yokozuna.

J5E Ack! takes M2W Abi.

Abi's oyakata (moto-'Terao') has recently passed away. How will this effect Abi's basho?

M15E Kotononami claims M13E Churanoumi.

Churanoumi started his Makunouchi career with a decent 9-6 last basho. He is now at his career highest rank.

K1E Oshirokita has got M7E Ichiyamamoto.

Ichiyamamoto won the jun-yusho in November. But he is now at his career highest rank....  maybe a tougher schedule?

M14W Seiyashi takes J7W Shishi.

The Ukrainian giant picked up a rare (for him) MK last basho. Back to his winning ways?

M5W #1HENKAFAN relies on M14E Kotoshoho.

Kotoshoho won the Juryo yusho in November. Last January he had a 11-4 jun-yusho in Makunouchi from a similar rank. Have the stars aligned for #1HENKAFAN?

O1E Kaba gets M10W Sadanoumi.

Kaba is kadoban, so is in danger of losing his rank. Sadnoumi has 'eeked' out two 8-7s in-a-row. Hopefully a third time?

M6E Djodjoyoshi acquires J6E Tokihayate.

Tokihayate is yet another rikishi at his career highest rank. He has also 'eeked' out two 8-7s in-a-row....

O1W Tetsuba needs something from J13W Oshoumi.

What? Oshoumi is also at his career high? The shin-sekitori has achieved a KK in every basho that he has completed. Might be okay for shin-Ozeki Tetsuba?

M15W Athenayama must trust J8E Shimanoumi.

Athenayama can't have a worse basho than last time, surely? Shimanoumi has had three KKs in his last two years. Not great odds.
