Naruto-beya confirms Mishima and Karino are out via timed IG story.

Will link the shikona to their SumoDB pages when I'm on my PC.

Good news for those who enjoy one-bout Day 13 appearances, I suppose - four of the six guys who did that last time are kyujo again.

Terunofuji has just the right medical certificate this time: with lower back pain related to a lumbar vertebrae intervertebral disk, repose treatment till the 26th necessary (till day 15)

腰椎椎間板性腰痛。26日まで安静加療を要する http://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2023111000557

Edit: the wrong date in the forum calendar confused me

I guess he meant that the tournament would go on until Takakeisho wins per Kyokai’s requirements for promotion: non-henka oshi-tsuki sumo which could prolong the tournament like forever and for it to happen it might need a Christmas miracle, so yeah Wakatake could be quite right: Wakamiso should be cleared and for the December part

J14w Azumaryu is kyujo from Day 2 due to a left knee injury, he was hobbling somewhat after his loss on the opening day. Shiden will get the fusensho.

I wonder if that's the last we saw of him...

Three withdrawals from the lower divisions ahead of Day 3:

Sd87w Hakuomaru (fusenpai Day 1)

Sd90w Sadanokuni

Jd58e Shunkaku (fusenpai Day 1)

Shin-Juryo Hitoshi left the arena in the wheelchair today, his knee seemed to buckle when Akua launched his kakenage.

Meanwhile, I read that Tatsutagawa-oyakata (former Komusubi Homasho) said on the broadcast yesterday that Shikoroyama-oyakata (former Sekiwake Terao) is currently in hospital due to chronic illness, which was not specified any further. Probably arrhythmia again, which kept him away from this basho last year too.

More detailed scans are to take place tomorrow, but the initial x-ray suggested only a sprain requiring two weeks of treatment, so we could expect to see him return at some point if that's the case.

Based on his Day 1 showing, on top of his dire Aki basho, I wasn't expecting to see him as an active rikishi after two weeks. Going kyujo might actually be a sign that he's trying to fight back.

There is no way he can avoid dropping to Makushita now. Would he even attempt a comeback?

Uh-oh.  He was 3-1 against his first three opponents before this basho, and he'd drawn Onosato for day 4.  Is that it for the Round Mound?

Everyone said it looked like a dislocated shoulder. He may have just figured he had no shot against Onosato anyway and took the rest day. Hopefully it isn't something kore serious.

Yup, confirmed by the medical certificate. Dislocated left shoulder, one week. Intends to return to the basho if feasible.

Just saw that Wakatakamoto (ms26) is now out. No clue why, no obvious injury during his first two so if anyone has any news on what is the issue that we can't see im curious.

I would've said a lower back injury from the first fight, but the second looked like maybe a foot injury? I'm just guessing. But he did definitely look injured to me.

In the lower divisions ahead of Day 5, two rikishi begin their basho but, as mentioned above, one brother has to withdraw.

Returning/Entering:

Jd58e Shunkaku (fusenpai Day 1, withdrew Day 3)

Jd74e Takemaru

Withdrawing:

Ms26w Wakatakamoto

Sd85w Yamato had a fusenpai on Day 4 but as yet hasn't withdrawn, we'll see if he is able to fight his next bout which should be on Day 6.

J11w Hidenoumi is kyujo from Day 7, haven't seen a reason yet. Tamashoho will get the default win.

Meanwhile, Nikkan says Asanoyama will enter the basho from Day 8.

Injured his foot in yesterday's match after winning.

Left gastrocnemius muscle tear, otherwise known as a calf injury. Kise-oyakata (former Maegashira Higonoumi) says they will monitor things with a return possible.

However, Azumaryu has returned to Tokyo for treatment as those further scans revealed meniscus damage, Tamanoi-oyakata (former Ozeki Tochiazuma) says he won't be returning to the basho.
