Game 21 Kyushu Basho 2023

Recommended Posts

Welcome to Game 21 for the Kyushu 2023 Basho. Lots of first-time fights!

I am launching the game again today, while Profomisakari will be back for the day to day comments.

HOW TO PLAY GAME 21

Shortly after the Banzuke is published, 21 potential bouts are selected by the admins. You just have to decide which bouts will or will not take place and, if they will, who you think will be the winners. The deadline to play is always the Friday before the basho starts at 11 AM (JST), 2 AM (UTC), or slightly earlier if I discover the torikumi has been revealed.

Each correct pick will earn you one point. If a Rikishi is listed in one of the potential bouts but never has a match scheduled in the Basho, the bout will not count for the allocation of points. If two or more entrants end up with the same number of correct picks, the two following tiebreaker rules will apply:

  • TB1: entrants will earn TB points for their ability to spot winning outsiders (i.e. the fewer players to correctly pick a winner, the more TB points you score) and the entrant with most TB points will win the tiebreaker.

  • TB2: if the first tiebreaker does not break the tie, the entrant with the earliest submission time will be declared the winner. Your submission time updates if you edit.

If you want to play, simply click the link below. it will take you to a multiple-choice form that will offer you three choices for each bout:

  • A if you think the first Rikishi will win

  • B if you think the second Rikishi will win

  • X if you think the bout will not take place

In addition to your picks and your shikona, the form will ask for a valid email address. The reason for this request is (a) to allow the system to send you a copy of your picks and (b) to allow you to update your choices until the deadline by clicking the “Edit Response'' button that is in the email.

If you want to play for the upcoming Basho, HERE IS THE LINK.

The deadline to play is Friday 10th of November at 11 AM (JST), 2 AM (UTC)

To help you prepare your picks, here are the bouts for the upcoming Basho:

Nr A History B
1 Terunofuji 4-2 Abi
2 Kirishima 7[-1]-8 Hoshoryu
3 Takakeisho 4-6 Tobizaru

6 Wakamotoharu - Gonoyama
7 Daieisho 8-5 Ura

18 Kinbozan 1-1 Midorifuji
19 Shonannoumi - Mitakeumi
20 Myogiryu 6-7 Takanosho
21 Tsurugisho 0-8 Ichiyamamoto

All 42 makuuchi rikishi have been included in the hope they will participate - remember that if any fail to appear on any day's torikumi, their bout will not count for our game. Hopefully we can have such high levels of participation and interest in our game as last time!

Get your entries in on time B-) it's easy to play (but hard to win). I just wanted to bump this thread.

Bout 1 will not matter, with the confirmed non-attendance of Terunofuji. No need to change your guess, just put any answer and move on.

18 Kinbozan 1-1 Midorifuji 17 17 0   .
19 Shonannoumi - Mitakeumi 12 17 5   .
20 Myogiryu 6-7 Takanosho 18 15 1   .
21 Tsurugisho 0-8 Ichiyamamoto 8 25 1   .

With a lot of newcomers to the top division, I used the opportunity to select a lot of first-time bouts. The head-to-head histories had comparatively less influence as a result.

Surprisingly, almost 1/4 of players are predicting Tsurugisho to get his first win over Ichiyamamoto in 9 tries. Few think Kotoeko can still match up to Endo well, or that serial pull-downer Tohakuryu will dislodge Tamawashi from the dohyo at first attempt. No bouts attracted a large proportion of X responses, but the number of X responses provided means these will likely be key to deciding our winner.

Bouts on a knife's edge are Kinbozan-Midorifuji, Takakeisho-Tobizaru, Myogiryu-Takanosho and Kirishima-Hoshoryu.

Let's enjoy the last basho of the year! @Profomisakari will manage the day-to-day.

Thank you, Yarimotsu!
You have chosen the fights differently again - and again very interesting.
This bout selection avoids the Torikumis for days 1 and 2.

As an additional game to Game 21, I suggest:
Who can guess on which day in this basho a Game 21 fight will take place for the first time?

My tip: On day 3.
On this day I will probably have to do the first daily evaluation.

And if someone asks me about the current status of the game:
We have a top group of 34 players, all with 0 points and 0 tiebreak points.
TB2 applies. So
Tochinofuji leads because he was once again the first to give his tip.

Congratulation, Tochi-san! (Applauding...)
You will lead at least until Tuesday!

20 Myogiryu 6-7 Takanosho 18 15 1 10 B
21 Tsurugisho 0-8 Ichiyamamoto 8 25 1 3 B

On day 1, 2, 12,13 and 15 we had no Game 21 bout.
Day 4, 5, 7, 10, 11 and 14 brought us one bout.
On day 6 were two game 21 bouts.

On day 3 and 9 were three such bouts.
On  day 8 we had four game 21 bouts,
Two bouts didn't take place and had the result X.
Bout No. 1 is  out of the rating for all players.
It could not take place
because Yokozuna
Terunofuji was not listed on any Torikumi
and is therefore out of the rating for all players.

Well, the wait is over.
Today the first three game 21 bouts of the November Basho took place in Fukuoka.
In all three fights won the favorites, so we have a ten members top group with each 3 of three possible points before another 16 players with two correct tips each.
The leader is
Fashiriteta, but only because he guessed as first of the 10 members of the leaders group.
Chishafuwaku is the only one who has had all three fights wrong so far
He is now in the last place with 0 points.

But there are still 11 days with maybe 10 more fights
and everyone can still win in the end, also you.

Excuse me please and thanks to Fashiriteta!
I had a mistake in my table.
Of course won
Shodai against Hokutofuji.
This changed the whole ranking table.
Here comes the corrected table:

Rk Player Pts TB
1 Asapedroryu 13 175
2 Karasukurai 13 163
3 Mizuma 12 158
4 Fashiriteta 12 151
5 andonishiki 12 147
6 Shatsume 12 141
7 Rokudenashi 11 134
8 Suwihuto 10 144
9 Athenayama 10 124
10 Takoyakiyama 10 123
11 ChickyStarr 10 112
12 shimodahito 9 122
13 Wamahada 9 110
14 RaeucherLax 9 105
15 Profomisakari 9 105
16 fujisan 9 104
17 Hakuhonofan 9 104
18 Susanoo 9 101
19 Asset 9 93
20 kujo 8 108
21 Gusoyama 8 104
22 Benihana 8 104
23 Hidenotora 8 99
24 Gair 8 95
25 Papayasu 8 92
26 Tochinofuji 8 85
27 Flohru 8 84
28 Sumo Spiffy 8 82
29 Yarimotsu 7 87

31 Takanorappa 7 79
32 chishafuwaku 6 65
33 Hisui 6 58
34 Bunbukuchagama 6 55

Day 9 brought us again three  game 21 bouts.
Now leads
Asapedroryu with 13 points
per tiebreaker before Karasukurai.
Then follow four players with 12
one with 11 points and again four with 10.

I think, only these are the players,
who have good chances, finally to win the game.

There are only 6 fights left.
Bout No. 1 will most likely not be included in the final ranking.

As a result, the circle of players with a chance of overall victory
becomes more and more narrowing

Tomorrow will again only one bout take place.
