Roto Sumo Kyushu 2022

Recommended Posts

Ozeki Pandaazuma scored at least 13 wins, and so is on a Yokozuna run.  He needs an overall Yusho before getting less than 10 wins in a tournament for promotion.

Ozeki Andoreasu, Sakura, and Chishafuwaku all had MKs and will be kadoban for next basho.

Neither Sekiwake scored a KK, so there are no Ozeki promotions.

The two new Sekiwake are Golynohana and Kajiyanosho.  The former has 21.39 wins over the last two tournaments.  Currently the target win number for 3 basho for Ozeki promotion is 32, but if some Ozeki get demoted that number will go down by one for each demotion, so the minimum 10 wins might be all he needs, but if there are no demotions than he'll need 10.61.  Kajiyanosho was MK last tournament and thus is not eligible for promotion next tournament.

The new Komusubi are Mariohana, ScreechingOwl, and Kitakachiyama, the latter getting a promotion due to a KK at M1e and the other two having good enough records to force spots.

Makushita is nearly as large as Makuuchi now.  I should probably at some point figure out when I need to split Makushita into multiple divisions, but there's no way I'm going to do that until there are at least 61 people there, so that's still likely a ways away.

Seems my "leaving Wakatakakage in my lineup" blunder did cost me World Championship points, though not as many as it would have thanks to a putrid last day.

I guess I'm not very popular with the ranking committee, too many henkas this basho? :-D

I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean.  If you think you should have been higher than Gansekiiwa, that's just how the calculations work.  At 4.5 ranks behind you needed 2.25 more wins than him to pass him, and you had only 2.15 more.  It would have been a dead heat (that would have required more decimal places than those shown on the reported wins number to distinguish) if he had had 8.75 wins, but he had slightly more than that, so got the nod.  If this were Ozumo, you'd probably not have gotten promoted because TochiYESshin didn't have a demotable record, but your 1 win more than needed for promotion was enough in this game to put you ahead of TochiYESshin in strict order, and I generally don't care where division boundaries are in the ordering (though it does matter for sanyaku).

If you thought you should have been ahead of Athenayama, take a look at my answer to Yarimotsu's question last basho in my thread that compiles all my banzuke.  For Bunbukuchagama (and others that had already been in Makuuchi), the fact that his score was made in Makuuchi, and thus was the result of a tougher conversion of score to wins than in Juryo, and by a significant margin this basho, gave him a boost when compared to Juryo scores.  If anything the boost to Makuuchi was too small, especially the further one gets from the top of the leaderboard.  A score that got the minimum KK in Juryo would have only been worth 4 wins in Makuuchi.

Haha it's not that deep, I just counted how many ranks other 10/11 win peeps got. I'm not actually serious :)

But thanks for the detailed answer :-D
