Jejima 1,300 Posted September 24, 2023 (edited) To play this game, just say that you are playing, and that's it. NB This needs to be done for every basho that you wish to play. Before the start of the next basho, I will make a random draw of all Ozumo sekitori (rikishi in Makunouchi and Juryo) to be given to the active players of this game. You will then score the same as that drawn rikishi. New / Returning players to the game, will be given a rikishi from Jonokuchi (this used to be Makushita) to represent them in Mae-zumo. Rule to be aware of.... If your sweepstake rikishi declares himself intai during a basho (as Tochinoshin did in May 2023), then so do you (as poor Djodjoyoshi found himself doing, thanks to the aforesaid Tochinoshin.). Currently, we are excluding Ozumo rikishi who do not appear on the day 1 torikumi. However, if we ever have 70 active players, this will no longer be the case - and you may find yourself sitting out of a tournament, nursing an injury, for Covid, or because you were caught gambling when you were not meant to, and so are being punished accordingly. Your next banzuke position will be based on what happens to your sweepstake rikishi. So, if you get a 'resting' Yokozuna or someone with Covid, you are likely to keep your rank. If, you get a rikishi being punished, or having to pull out for an injury (and they are not 'Yokozuna'-protected), you will score 0-0-15, and drop accordingly. There might even be an instance when there is a greyed out spot on the banzuke, due to a late 'banishment' for a serious offence (or a belated intai) when we make the draw for the '70'. If you get that rikishi - you are also 'banished' or have declared a late intai. It's all pure luck New players are welcome to join the fun - but they will have to start in mae-zumo. They will be given a random Jonokuchi rikishi in the Sweepstake. Edited October 3, 2023 by Jejima
Jejima 1,300 Posted September 24, 2023 (edited) New Banzuke for November 2023 Comments: Holleshoryu will be kadoban in November, and will need a KK to keep his rank. chishafuwaku is on Ozeki watch going into November. 12 wins will give him the 'magic 33'. lilfox needs a zensho basho (15-0) to get the 'magic 33'. Yusho winner Tetsuba is also on Ozeki promotion watch - he 'merely' requires 10 wins to get the numbers required. Of course, if the Ozeki trio all under-perform in November, the guidelines will probably become a little laxer. Yarimotsu 513 Posted September 24, 2023 What's the reason to change new players to Jonokuchi representatives instead of Makushita? Surely this adds increased risk of 0-0-6 or 0-0-7 scores and generally disinteresting results for the newcomers to our game? Also thanks for asking, I'd love to play again in November. Surely this adds increased risk of 0-0-6 or 0-0-7 scores and generally disinteresting results for the newcomers to our game? There are reasons . Nobody would get 0-0-7 records, as you get to draw another player if yours is declared kyujo. I don't think there is a greater risk of 0-6 or 0-7 records (and if there is, it won't be by much) compared to Makushita, as rikishi in the lower divisions generally get matched up against others with the same record. At some stage in the next few years, we might have a full Juryo and Makunouchi (70 active players), in which case, we will have to use Makushita for 'normal' players. Jonokuchi is a MUCH smaller division than Makushita, which makes it easier for me when allocating the rikishi, and possibly to Athenayama too, when checking the results. It's only for one basho, and we seem to only have a few players each time as mae-zumo. Even if your rikishi is 0-6, it won't make much difference on the next banzuke *look where the (2-4-1) landed compared to the (6-1) for the past basho* - and I for one, would be cheering on that rikishi to get at least one win! Finally, this game isn't really about getting high scores - it's about chance, the luck of the gods etc. Anybody who might get upset with a 0-7 (or 0-15 record, for that matter), probably shouldn't be 'playing' this game Edited September 24, 2023 by Jejima
