Sekitori Sweepstake - September 2023

Recommended Posts

M1W RaeucherLax (M2W, 8-4-3) needs a boost from M8E Kotoeko.
Kotoeko has 7-8 or 8-7 records in his last five bashos - the last three have all been 8-7 though.

M8E Chiyotasuke (J1E, 11-4)'s rikishi will be J8W Chiyosakae.

These two have similar shikona (not quite anagrams). Chiyosakae's usual Juryo record seems to be 8-7.

M11W Seiyashi (M18W, 8-7) will be rooting for M9 Hakuoho.

Hakuoho might be considered a dark horse contender for the yusho? So, I am sure Seiyashi will be content with his draw.

M10E Hakuhonofan (M9,E 6-9) has drawn M14W Kotoshoho.

Kotoshoho has had 7 MKs in his past 8 bashos... So, fingers crossed for Hakuhonofan that Kotoshoho finds his mojo.

M3E Joaoiyama (M4E, 8-7) needs outside assistance from M11E Mitakeumi.

Surely at this rank, former Ozeki Mitakeumi is good for a KK?

O2E Kaba (S1W, 11-4) is going to be finding out about M6E Onosho.

Oh dear, I fear that shin-Ozeki (and my youngest son) Kaba might end up being kadoban for November. :-S

That completes the draw for active players. Late entries from the following will still be accepted:-
@Gaijingai Gaijingai, @Rocks Gansekiiwa, @Terarno Terarno.

There are some decent rikishi left in the pool, including all three Ozekis.

M8W #1HENKAFAN (M13E, 8-7) has been allocated M13W Nishikifuji.

When Nishikifuji is ranked this low in Makunouchi, he has always got a double digit record.

Nishikifuji is a better wrestler than where he is ranked on paper but with his injury issues I'm not too pleased to see he's the one I drew. High risk, but high Reward at least if it works out.

M13E Karasukurai (M9W, 3-12) will want a better showing (than what he got last basho) from J1E Roga.

The Mongolian/Russian (which is it? Ulaanbaator is definitely in Mongolia - I went there several years ago... but Sumo Reference has both mentioned, and the Nihon Kyokai site has him down as Russian...) has been steadily making his way up at Juryo, without any MKs. At J1E, he can only move up to Makunouchi, should he get another KK.

Roga was originally billed as from Mongolia by the kyokai but once he turned 18 Roga requested that his shusshin be changed to Russia. I don't remember why that is but it has something to do with Japanese law that he had the same nationality as his legal guardian or something idk

M10W Hoshotakamoto (M8E, 5-10) will want a boost from M7E Takayasu.

Takayasu started last basho well, with 5 wins - before 7 losses in-a-row. He has kept his M7E rank, so let's see how the former Ozeki does this time!

soon to be sekiwake hoshotakamoto

How long did it take you to craft an algorithm for that prediction? (Sigh...)

It's Takayasu at M7! I mean, if he can overcome his recent Day 6-12 issues he's virtually unstoppable.

Or Takayasu could just go kyujo again like he tends to do every second basho.

He's never gone kyujo after exclusively fighting a lineup like this

Gansekiiwa has been given J10E Chiyomaru.

Chiyomaru is a favourite of my family (The Big Baby) - but will he cheer Gansekiiwa?

Yes! And anyone other new players who would like to join, to give TheGunbaiHolder and (now) Ack! some Mae-zumo competition!

Ack! (mz) will start his Sekitori Sweepstake career with ms7E Nabatame.

Nabatame is at his career high ranking for this basho.

@Ack!

J3W Reonito (mz, 4-3) has been granted M15E Atamifuji.

Atamifuji won the Juryo yusho in May - but had double digit losses on his one previous sojourn to Makunouchi.

Big Atamifuji fan; hopefully he'll be more ready the 2nd time

M16E Kotononami (M17W, 7-8) will hope to avoid the drop to Juryo, with the help of J4E Oshoma.

Oshoma won the Juryo yusho last November, but has been rather vanilla since then.

I already had Oshoma last basho image.png.3f4835eb4a02bb67bd672e4965f155f5.png

Gusoyama receives ms23W Kayo.

Kayo is a little short - but has the ability.
