First up, our solo Mae-zumo player @TheGunbaiHolder.....

I will spin this wheel with all of the Makushita rikishi on it.

TheGunbaiHolder will be represented by Ms55 Wakaikari

A possibly decent pick - as this rikishiki has yet to 'heat the wall' = and won the Sandanme Yusho back in May.

Will any other new player step up to give TheGunbaiHolder some opposition among the Mae-zumo?

Time for Juryo.  First put the five active players (so far....) into this random list generator, and shuffle....

  1. J4E Djodjoyoshi (mz, 4-3)
  2. J3W Reonito (mz, 4-3)
  3. J3E Rokudenashi (mz, 4-3)
  4. J1W Fujiko (M15W, 3-12)
  5. J2E WAKATAKE (J2E, 4-9-2)

Then start the random draw for Sekitori rikishi using the wheel mentioned above...

J4E Djodjoyoshi (mz, 4-3) receives M5E Gonoyama.

Gonoyama has risen up the ranks rapidly - and is now at his highest rank, and might face some sanyaku opponents for the first time this basho.

J3W Reonito (mz, 4-3) has been granted M15E Atamifuji.

Atamifuji won the Juryo yusho in May - but had double digit losses on his one previous sojourn to Makunouchi.

J3E Rokudenashi (mz, 4-3) will rely on M6W Ryuden.
Ryuden seems to have either decent or poor tournaments. It has been over 3 years since he had a 'balanced' 8-7 / 7-8 / 4-3 / 3-4 record.

J1W Fujiko (M15W, 3-12) will need to cheer on Y1E Terunofuji.

As ever, be assured that this was a genuinely random draw - but I am not sure if my wife should be happy with getting the Yokozuna.... Will he even be active this basho, and might Fujiko need a replacement rikishi once the Shonichi torikumi is known?

J2E WAKATAKE (J2E, 4-9-2) will be looking to M8W Hiradoumi.

Hiradoumi will be at his highest ever rank - and ended last basho with a fusensho loss....  Fingers crossed that he is feeling genki!

S1E chishafuwaku (M1E, 12-3) has drawn S1W Wakamotoharu.

Wakamotoharu has averaged at slightly under 10 wins per basho for the past six tournaments. Wakamotomaru has an outside chance of getting promoted to Ozeki after this basho - probably needs a Yusho. Very similar predicament to chishafuwaku. How apt!

M6E Jejima (M11E, 9-6) will be attaching his wagon to J3W Mitoryu.

Once again I have what looks at first sight to be a mediocre Juryo rikishi representing me. (I think that has been every basho so far...?)

O1W Holleshoryu (O1W, 10-5) has his hopes on J2W Daiamami.

Daiamami's first name is 'genki' - let's hope he is. He lost the Juryo play-off for the Yusho last basho. But another strong performance this basho, could help Holleshoryu in his Yokozuna quest.

M15E Benihana (M16W, 7-8) needs a good performance from M4E Takanosho.

Takanosho is back in the joi-jin after a year of mid-Makunouchi madness. The last time he was ranked at M4, he had a very decent 11-4 Jun-Yusho.

M11E Gernobono (J3W, 10-5) in his shin-Maku tournament will be championed by M10E Kinbozan.

The Kazahh giant might be a good option this time around.

M13W Kaminariyuki (J3E, 8-7) is another shin-maku (if I recall correctly) - his hopes are pinned on J7E Wakatakakage.

So, Kaminariyuki will have to wait until the Shonichi Torikumi is published to see whether he'll need a late replacement. (I suspect that he might.)

O1E Takanorappa (O1E, 10-5)'s potential Yokozuna hopes may need to rely on S2E Kotonowaka.

Not a shoddy pick, to be honest, despite Kotonowaka being a shin-Sekiwake.

M10W Hoshotakamoto (M8E, 5-10) will want a boost from M7E Takayasu.

Takayasu started last basho well, with 5 wins - before 7 losses in-a-row. He has kept his M7E rank, so let's see how the former Ozeki does this time!

M4W Jakusotsu (M10W, 10-5) needs a performance from J5W Bushozan.

Oh dear. Well, Bushozan can't do worse than the 3-12 he got in May, can he?

M9W Ganzohnesushi (M5E, 4-11) needs something from J1W Tamashoho.

Tamshoho spent almost 8 years continuously lurking in Makushita before beginning his Sekitori career this year. He has yet to have a losing record in Juryo....
