Jejima's comments: Mr Froggy is the true drone for this game. He has received the representative team that no real player wanted, and he has been forced to take the least popular pick in each bracket. He is not allowed to change his line-up for each round, which will follow the official droning rules, and in his case will be as follows:-
Mr Froggy: 1. Colombia (R), 2. Ireland (C), 3. England, 4. Spain, 5. Australia, 6. Brazil, 7. Denmark, 8. Argentina, 9. Haiti, 10. South Africa, 11. Philippines
So, I guess Mr Froggy's fate will depend a lot on Colombia and Ireland's fortunes - but really he is a purposefully 'weak player', which the rest of the group should be able to beat. Lot of variety of selection in this group, which is only partly due to Mr Froggy's enforced selection criteria. Another interesting group for Athenayama to look after!

Round 1
Kumanomusko (Germany) vs Polimasa IMorocco)
Mr Froggy (Colombia) vs Bunbuckuchagama (South Korea)

Round 2
Bunbuckuchagama (South Korea) vs Polimasa IMorocco)
Kumanomusko (Germany) vs Mr Froggy (Colombia)

Round 3
Bunbuckuchagama (South Korea) vs Kumanomusko (Germany)
Polimasa IMorocco) vs Mr Froggy (Colombia)

Group F - Refioji Nekonishiki

Fujiko, Jejima (@Jejima), Lordshamrockyama, Spytoneryu (@Athenayama),

Please send me your line-ups in e-mail to bandey@szumo.hu, or in PM here in forum. The sooner is the better.
I'm setting the deadline traditionally to 1 hour before the kick-off. If my list is correct, that is

8 am CEST (7am UK Time, 3pm JST) on Thursday, July 20.

I reconsidered the deadline, Athenayama has right, I still have to publish your line-ups in time, too.
8pm CEST (7pm UK Time, 3am* JST) on Wednesday, July 19

I just hope I converted the time zones well - actually it's 20 July 2023 19:00 UTC+12 (the kick-off itself)

When submitting your line-ups, you should line-up your squad in the order of likelihood that you think that they will win (or at least draw).  There are special rules for Representative teams (R) and Counter-balance teams (C) - so be careful with those.

Remember that your ® team is very powerful if it wins, but can be a nightmare to your chances if it draws or loses. Your © team is 'normal' with a win, but is powerful with a draw, and bad if it loses. Your other 8 (N) teams do well if they win, are neutral if they draw, but could break your chain if they lose. With that under consideration, you need to arrange your squad in order (with the most likely to win their first round match first, to the team you think has the least chance of a win last), and send that to you refioji.

Look here under Match-play Group Stages for more details, but the above is a good summary.

Please make your subject line-up like this.....

Jejima Round 1 Selection

Then send your line up like this.... (Please indicate your ® and © picks to make it easier for your refijoi.) Make sure you send it to your correct refioji!

Jejima: 1. Wales, 2. Greece©, 3. Mexico®, 4. Mauritius, 5. Hong Kong, 6. Eswatini, 7. Poland, 8. Uruguay, 9. Fiji, 10. Mongolia, 11. Czech Republic
Comment: Please add a comment! It makes the game more fun. (Really.)

I have fed the real round 1 matches to ChatGPT, and asked it to predict the outcomes.  It refused to do so. So, I asked it to predict how a pundit might see the matches going. I have arranged its squad accordingly into its line-up. However, ChatGPT used 'might' and 'may' in some predictions, which were otherwise fairly similar. So, I needed to find out how it viewed the difference between 'might' and 'may' - as it is not clear in English, and some people may think differently, ChatGPT answered like this....

In terms of likelihood, "might" and "may" are often used interchangeably and can both indicate possibilities or probabilities. However, there is a subtle distinction in usage: "Might" implies a slightly higher degree of probability or likelihood compared to "may." It suggests that there is a stronger chance or a more reasonable expectation of something happening. "May" suggests a possibility or potential outcome, but it can indicate a slightly lower level of probability compared to "might." It signifies that something is feasible or could occur, but there may be other factors that could influence the outcome. Overall, the difference between "might" and "may" in terms of likelihood is minimal, and their usage can vary depending on the context and personal preference of the speaker or writer.

So, based on all of that, I have been able to sort out ChatGPT's round one line up, which has now been sent to the refioji.

Thanks for noticing, I mixed things. It was actually Nekonishiki I wanted to address. (Kumanomusuko has no account).
