Golden Gloves Standings after the Semifinals (update).

(Those on the plane home are no longer eligible, and so are deleted from these standings).

So, it's Jejima's family against Athenayama's family and friends with some salt (Pitinosato), pepper (Polimasa) for taste, a good sip of beer (aminoumi) for thirst and fado (Koorifuu) for ambience.

Refioji Athenayama at your service.

Bench World Cup 3rd/4th play-off:
BW3/4  Match 4:
Koorifuu (Portugal) vs Polimasa (Morocco)

Lineups have been submitted so there's no reason to make you wait more. Here they are.

Koorifuu : 1. Sweden (S2) (1st), 2. Sweden (S2) (ET), 3. Sweden (S2) (2nd), 4. England (ET), 5. England (2nd), 6. England (1st).

Polimasa : 1. Spain (ET), 2. Sweden (S2)(ET), 3. Spain (2nd), 4. Sweden (S2)(2nd), 5. Spain (1st), 6. Sweden (S2)(1st).
Comment: The last "Mohican" from Achiyama's family, battling for the Bronze medals. Can I place better than the best placed Bulgarian football team during 1994 World Cup?!

Sweden (ET) has been removed in line 2.
We have a direct duel Spain vs England here. Will it be the main factor for the final decision or will it come from a totally unexpected "X" factor? Stay tuned.

Good luck to both !

Well, I have every line-up, too, and I recalled that I’m always turning the alarm clock off at the weekends, so who knows when will I wake up tomorrow. :)

Two matches are left from this exciting World Cup! Too bad that the big time zone difference didn’t permit me to watch the matches, I didn’t see any match entirely but when I didn’t forget, I always turned the tv on, it was funny to work this way. I could see some dramatic penalty series as well. I will try to watch at least the final two matches. If I can get home in time from the farmer’s market.

Now I have the honor to be the Refioji in two Bench World Finals.
Good luck to you all.

Bench World Saucer Finals
Refioji: Nekonishiki

BWSF Match 1:
Baku (Vietnam) vs Jejima (Panama)

Baku

1. England (S2) (2nd), 2. Spain (1st), 3. England (S2) (E.T.), 4. Spain (E.T.) (C), 5. England (S2) (1st), 6. Spain (2nd)
Comment: Daddy's playing against me!

Jejima

1. England (1st) (C), 2. England (2nd), 3. England (E.T.), 4. Australia (S2) (1st), 5. Australia (S2) (E.T.), 6. Australia (S2) (2nd), 7. Sweden (1st), 8. Sweden (2nd), 9. Sweden (E.T.),

Comment: I'm sending in my line-up before asking Baku's for his. Whoever wins this match, I will be proud - and we will have a little extra saucerware for our home. I think that Australia will probably defeat Sweden, due to being the home side, and actually caring about 3rd place. But I also need to use my England (C) super-skill....   I guess that it is most likely to be a 0-0 draw in the first half...  No, I have to back the Lionesses all the way, so they can have the first three slots.  I wonder where Peter will put his Spain (C) superskill? I will find out very soon!

Refioji comment: England Extra Time is out of match

Bench World Cup Finals
Refioji: Nekonishiki

BWCF Match 5:
Meletyoshi (Spain) vs Athenayama (Canada)

Meletyoshi

1. England (S2)(ET), 2. Spain (ET), 3. Sweden (S1)(ET), 4. England (S2)(2nd), 5. Spain (2nd), 6. England (S2)(1st), 7. Spain (R)(1st), 8. Sweden (S1)(2nd), 9. Sweden (S1)(1st).
Comment : Now that I'm here I might as well win this. Sorry little brother.

Athenayama

1. Sweden (S1)(2nd), 2. Spain (2nd), 3. Sweden (S1)(1st), 4. England (S2)(1st), 5. Spain (1st), 6. England (S2)(2nd), 7. Sweden (S1)(ET), 8. Spain (ET), 9. England (S2)(ET).

Comment : UNBELIEVABLE. I think this is a first in the history of Bench World/Euro cups. My knowledge of football is way better than my brother's, yet here we are facing each other in this historic final. I guess Spain (R) helped him and might help him one more time. It is the first time I'm not gonna be "mad" if I lose in a game. That said I'm not giving up and will try hard for the Cup!

Refioji Athenayama at your service. Final round - Day 1.

Bench World Cup 3rd/4th play-off:
BW3/4  Match 4:
Koorifuu (Portugal) vs Polimasa (Morocco)

Too many possible scenarios to make a prediction, unfortunately. That said, Koorifuu gets 2 crucial wins in line 1 and 3 meaning his chain can't be broken before line 4. That also means that Polimasa needs definitely Spain not to lose 2nd half and Extra Time (if played) to stay alive. And if Spain don't win these periods Koorifuu will score one or even 2 goals. So, yes, no prediction yet but Koorifuu had a very good start in this match for the 3rd place. Stay tuned!

Sweden didn’t get enough trust from the players, so nothing has been decided yet.

Bench World Saucer Finals
Refioji: Nekonishiki

BWSF Match 1:
Baku (Vietnam) vs Jejima (Panama)

Jejima has 2 winning slots and a draw. But these potential goals are at the very end of the line-up, so England shouldn’t lose to keep something from the win.

BWCF Match 5:
Meletyoshi (Spain) vs Athenayama (Canada)

Exciting match, the standings are better for Athenayama, who trusted in Sweden.

Well, I don't know exactly what the rules say

but for me it would be more than OK if the slightly delayed lineup would count

especially since the first game had not yet started

I don't mind using the submitted lineup.

But as Australia was missing, I'd need Rijicho Jejima's advice - in such case whether the missing team has to be placed at the end, or at the beginning of the lineup.

I haven't seen what the rules are for Semi-droning.

Bench World Cup 3rd/4th play-off:
BW3/4  Match 4:
Koorifuu (Portugal) vs Polimasa (Morocco)

Only one half time to go in this world cup and let's see if we can built some scenarios.
Polimasa scored a goal at line 6, will it count?
If Spain win the second half, Polimasa will win 3-1.
If Spain draw the second half, Polimasa will win 3-2.
If Spain lose the second half : Koorifuu will win either 2-0 in regular time or 1-0/2-0 in Extra Time depending on ET result.

Bench World Cup 3rd/4th play-off:
BW3/4  Match 4:
Koorifuu (Portugal) vs Polimasa (Morocco)

What a spectacular game! Both chains didn't break (well in last line but does it count?). Koorifuu took an early advantage scoring twice and was seeing the light. Bulgarian grinta prevailed though and Polimasa turned things upside down scoring 3 times !
3rd place for Polimasa.
4th place for Koorifuu in his first participation to a Bench World Cup.
Congrats to both and let's hope to see you play again in the next version of the game, probably in next Euro 2024 for men. :-)

And, after a month of game, the last day is here. I think we can say that the finals didn’t go that way as the players expected. How much part of (un)luck and tactics played a role in the results, decide yourself. :)

We had a great game during the past month, almost every day, it was good.
Now I’m going to have a siesta in this 32C heat.

Bench World Saucer Finals
Refioji: Nekonishiki

BWSF Match 1:
Baku (Vietnam) 2 Jejima (Panama) 0

I think this is the first case when Slot #1 didn’t work for the Rijicho, what’s more, broke his chain. Baku wins the final with 2 goals.

The Winner of the 2023 Bench World Saucer is Baku !

Final_Saucer_2.jpg

Bench World Cup Finals
Refioji: Nekonishiki

BWCF Match 5:
Meletyoshi (Spain) 0 Athenayama (Canada) 2

Meletyoshi did his best, but the fate brought that all his winning slots were too far for reaching them. Athenayama takes the win, with trust in Sweden and with a risky Slot #2, but it didn’t betray him, either.

The winner of the 2023 Bench World Cup is ATHENAYAMA !

Final_Cup_2.jpg

Congratulations to the winners, but also for all the players! Thanks to all of you guys, it was a pleasure to play with you.

Honestly I was extremely lucky that my brother's chain broke in line 6.  He had 4 goals just waiting in lines 7/8/9 ! wow

Thanks to all for playing ! I hope this isn't the end of Bench World/Euro cup games. At least I believe we have the possibility to still play the Euros if Ceferin doesn't have the "brilliant" idea to increase also the participants to 48 teams....

Refiyoji's Comments: Veteran Pitinosato played a masterful game. After another "Fair play" award deserving behavior by him suggesting that I can use Aminoumi's lineup, although it was received after the Deadline! You call it luck, or strategy, or mastery he arranged his squad in a way that he achieved a 1:0 win over the impressive player Aminoumi, who had identical squad. The game could go differently. Aminoumi could win as well, or maybe going into painful penalty kicks. Congratiulations to Pitinosato for winning the Plate!

Golden Boot Standings after the Finals.

Ok, let's post the final standings of the Golden Boot anf Gloves as our Richijo must be busy.

Unfortunately Kaba didn't have enough cards in his game (only one team) and Spytoneryu took big advantage of it scoring 2 goals. As none of the other pursuers did better the Golden Boot goes to Spytoneryu ! Athenayama even "steals" the second rank from unfortnate Kaba (great performance nonetheless) thanks to a better goal difference.

Golden Gloves Standings after the Finals.

(Those on the plane home are no longer eligible, and so are deleted from these standings).

They say that in team sports the best defenses win the championships. Well, it seems we have confirmation of that here. Athenayama ends the tournament with one more clean sheet while Kaba as we've already seen conceded 3 goals. The young talent still finishes at the second rank. Congrats ! Pitinosato gets the 3rd place.
