Meletyoshi's Comments: And I'm still here? I didn't even want to play in the first place.

Koorifuji's Comments: I've admittedly lucked out when both my R16 and QF opponents threw their (R) on top when their teams weren't really clear favourites, and it backfired on both occasions. This time, however, Meletyoshi got BOTH my teams AND Spain, who are probably going to win the whole thing.
My entire strategy therefore relies on Meletyoshi going Spain first & hope for the massive upset so I get a hattrick of #1 (R) mishaps, haha. Very low odds but going defensive would probably be riskier!

Refioji's Comments: Meletyoshi's chain is broken at spot #2, but Koorifuji has a loss at spot #1: if England is a winner in 2nd half - Meletyoshi wins 1:0. If England loses in 2nd half - Koorifuji's chain stays unbroken. If England draws - Koorifuji's chain will be broken, and we have to go to ET or penalties.

BWS4 Match 1:
Bumbiachiyama (South Africa) vs Baku (Vietnam)

Only Slot #5 has been decided today, Baku has a possible goal, but it depends heavily on England if he can score that or even more goals.

Mr Froggy scored a goal in line 5 provided its chain isn't broken before then. Pitinosato will score a goal in line 1 if England don't win the 1st half. And if they lose it, Pitinosato will be the winner of this duel. Still several other scenarios possible to analyze further yet.

A draw after 90 minutes, and we go into extra time starting with slot six:

Oyama 1:3 aminoumi
(Netherlands) (Japan)

                        1:1
Sweden (S1) (1st) D 0:1 W England (S1) (1st)
Sweden (S1) (2nd) L x:1 W England (S1) (2nd)
Australia (ET) D ≡:≡ D Australia (ET)
Sweden (S1) (ET) D x:0 D England (S1) (ET)

Although she overestimated Australia, England provided aminoumi with the necessary stamina in extra time and a ticket for the Plate finals.

are you sure the Penalties are correct ??

I read the rules for this round like this:

so it would be 4-2 ? (still in my favour (Jumpinginecstasy...))

For the finals, we use the same rules as for the semifinals for normal and extra time (for penalties, please check the rules for the Finals!).

This means that we keep the same teams as we had for the Semifinals.

We use the 3rd Place match and the actual finals, as our two matches.

Third Place Match

Times are GMT/UCT.

August 19

Sweden vs Australia (8am)

Final

August 20

Spain vs England (10am)

Golden Boot Standings after the Semifinals

Kaba remains on top of the standings - but his opponent in the Bowl finals, Spytoneryu, is just one goal behind! Due to the massive goal difference, Spytoneryu will need to win with a two-goal margin to claim the Golden Boot. The two players on 11 goals need a three-goal margin in their final match, and hope that Spytoneryu doesn't score too many...

Golden Gloves Standings after the Octofinals

(Those on the plane home are no longer eligible, and so are deleted from these standings).

My youngest son, Kaba, remains in first place, in his quest to get the Golden Boot and the Golden Gloves for this tournament. I would say that the only player (due to Kaba's massive goal difference) with any chance of claiming the gloves, would be Athenayama. To do so, he needs to concede no goals against his brother in the Cup final, and hope that his friend Spytoneryu smashes Kaba in the Bowl final!

1. (=) Kaba 2 (+11)

Bench World Saucer Finals
Refioji: Nekonishiki

Bench World Cup Finals
Refioji: Nekonishiki

Meletyoshi, Baku and Jejima (I already have the line-up from Athenayama)

Just for the sake of formality: I'm waiting the line-ups in the usual ways, since the match for 3rd and 4th place will be on Saturday, this time, exceptionally, I can send the intros right before the kick-off, so the deadline can be 9am CEST (8am UK Time) on Saturday, August 19. But of course the sooner is the better.

Refioji's Comments: Meletyoshi is the winner 1:0. And will be facing his brother Athenayama at the Cup Finals.

So besides Sweden-Australia and Spain-England there's yet another exciting match I won't be able to watch, due to my untimely foray into the wilderness on the weekend. :'-(

Hi all,

We have decided to go on holiday for a week (last week of the school summer holidays), and so we have booked a last minute boating holiday down the rivers near Cambridge. We leave tomorrow morning!

I have asked Athenayama to take over duties for the Golden Boot and Golden Gloves. He has spotted some discrepancies with the previous tables - entirely the fault of my brain...  So, I hope that he will also publish the corrected tables for both, still today if possible.

On a side note, I pointed out to my son, Peter (AKA Baku, aged 7), that he is very lucky, in that during his brief lifetime, he will have watched three major finals (Men's Euros, Women's Euros and Women's World Cup) involving English teams - the same number as me! What a time for English football!
