I should PM this instead of writing it in public but fyi I'm not a big fan of the French national teams. ;-)
And the main reason of that is when I was a kid and I was watching games with French teams (any sport) on tv, the French commentators were so in favor of the French and supported them so loudly that it created a sort of "allergy" in me that remained since then.

Just a few exceptions to that, Paris Saint Germain of course (Hi Ganzo !) and few other French teams. :-)

Nekonishiki's Comments: Rijicho-sama, let's see who has  less unluck :)

Jejima's Comments: I've studied my aite's squad - and he must surely be putting Australia in 3rd slot? So, I will try to match that, and put it out of the equation. I think that this will be decided on whether I have called the result of the Sweden vs Japan match correctly. (Or, if England ends 90 minutes in a tie? No, come on Lionesses! No more stress watching you, please!)

Refioji's Comments: Jejima is the winner with penalties 5:4 and goes to play Saucer Semifinal. Nekonishiki, unfortunately, is the unlucky one and flies home.

PSG? One of the most hated Clubs on earth? I'll always celebrate their k.o. in CL. Even sweeter when they lose vs. Bayern. They are just wasting zillions of money they have never earned. A formerly traditional Club meanwhile only a toy for some Arabian Sheiks. I can only hope for "real" PSG Fans that someday these Arabs are losing their interest in football.

Sadly enough Manchester City has won the CL this year with the same approach. They piss on Financial Fairplay and some dubious lawyers have taken care to stop their ban from CL. Disgusting!

It might happen much sooner than you even hope. Getting rid of Messi, Mbappe, Neymar and Verratti right now is a sign .... Well, this is a big topic and this is not the right thread for it.

Hi all.

I've been out all day with my extended family (children, parents, two sisters, nephews and nieces), and watched the England match late on (without knowing the result in advance!). Now going to start doing all the admin stuff :-)

Sorry for the delay.,

I need to collect the last set of penalty takers for the finals (NOT the Semifinals, those are already in). No need to do this, if you are already on the plane home.

The rules for this are a little different to other rounds, so I will copy and paste below. The link for submitting your penalty takers will be in the next post.

***********

Penalty Takers for the Finals

Players need to predict the final finishing order of the four last teams. These predictions need to be submitted before the kick-off of the first Semi-final match.

Players need to submit the order their predictions for the final positions of the remaining four teams.... 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

and they also need to make a prediction for the time of the first goal in the finals.

If no goals are scored in normal and extra time, the first goal of the match will be considered to be the first penalty scored in a penalty shoot-out, and will count as '121 minutes'. A prediction of '46 minutes' (etc) will be considered to be the 1st minute of the second half, unless otherwise stated. (A prediction of '45 minutes' / '90 minutes' etc does not include the minutes after that number, being played in 'injury time' at the end of a half. If you wish to predict the second minute of 'injury time' in the first half, you need to say 45+2.)

The penalty shoot-out will be as follows....

3 penalty goals awarded for predicting the World Cup winner, 2 penalty goals for predicting the runner-up. 1 penalty goal for predicting the 'third placed team'. 0 penalty goals for the 'fourth placed team'. The sudden death starts after the first two slots (i.e with the third slot). If no winner can be determined during this time (NB, we do not go back to the first two teams), there is an extra penalty goal to be awarded to the player whose prediction of the time of the first goal in the match is the closest to the actual time of it being scored. This includes injury time. For example, player A predicts 44 minutes and player B predicts 48 minutes. The first goal was scored in the fifth minute of first-half injury time (45+5) out of a total six minutes of injury time played. Player B gets the extra penalty goal, because their prediction (1+3 minutes) is closer than Player A's (6).

If a player predicts a time that did NOT happen, they are penalised for any extra fictional minutes, by having them added to the prediction. For example, the player predicted 45+6, but the first half only had an additional 2 minutes, the player is penalised by having the 4 fictional minutes added when seeing who is closest to the actual first goal.

If there is still a tie, due to both players having identical times for their 'first goals' - or are an equal number of minutes away on either side of the actual time of the first goal, then the penalty taker list for the semi-finals, then quarter-finals and then the round of 16 will be used- but only for the overall winner, which will score a single penalty.

If there is still a tie after that, then it is the player with the fewest red cards, then fewest yellow cards that wins. After that, it is the player that did best in the group matches, that wins. If still evenly matched, then, the player who has/had the lowest ranked ® team at the start of the tournament who is the winner!

I was approached by Rijicho Jejima, that my penalty kick tables for the matches Nekonishiki-Jejima and Djodjoyoshi-Fujiko were not right. So I made the revisions

Here are the revised Tables:

NEKONISHIKI   JEJIMA
Penalties Goals   Penalties Goals
England - missed 0   England - missed 0
Japan - missed 0   Spain - scores 1
Sweden - scores 1   Australia - scores 1
USA - misses 0   Japan - missed 0
Australia - scores 1   Sweden - scores 1
LOSER 2   WINNER 3

Winner is Jejima with penalties 3:2.

DJODJOYOSHI   FUJIKO
Penalties Goals   Penalties Goals
USA - misses 0   Switzerland - misses 0
Sweden - scores 1   Netherlands - missed 0
France - missed 0   Australia - scores 1
Denmark - misses 0   Morocco - misses 0
Morocco - misses 0   France - missed 0
Spain - scored 1   South Africa - missed 0
WINNER 2   LOSER 1

Winner is Djodjoyoshi with penalties 2:1.

Sorry for any inconveniences!

I won't be able to work on this till tomorrow. If there is something else wrong with my postings I authorize Rijicho to make them right.

Trivia Question....

In a perfect world, why (if they manage to get past Australia in the semifinals - and that is a big 'if'), should England play a team of penguins in the finals, having achieved something that no other team (male or female) has ever done in any World Cup to date? (I strongly presume, without checking.)

Bonus Question - and why should there be an asterisk attached to the above potential feat?

Defeating a team from every continent? In a single tournament, you mean?

Not sure if the African team was defeated - but yes, facing a team from every continent on the way to the finals....  but why would the asterisk be needed?

I guess the asterisk is needed because Haiti doesn't clearly belong to North America?

Bench World Saucer Quarterfinals:-

(Losers are on the plane home. Winners progress to the Saucer Semifinals).

BWS8  Match 1:
Andonishiki (Zambia) 0-1 Bumbiachiyama (South Africa)
Refioji - Nekonishiki
Andonishiki is on the plane home. Bumbiachiyama can still get his hands on the Saucer!

BWS8  Match 2:
Ganzohnesushi (Costa Rica) 0-1 Baku (Vietnam)

Refioji - Athenayama
Ganzohnesushi is also headed home. My oldest son fights on!

BWS8  Match 3:
Asapedroryu (Nigeria) 0-1 Lordshamrockyama (France)
Refioji – Jakusotsu
Asapedroryu is another player headed home after a 1-0 defeat. Lordshamrockyama is still in it for the Saucer!

BWS8  Match 4:
Nekonishiki (Ireland) 1-1, 1-2 AET Jejima (Panama)
Refioji - Achiyama
This match actually finished in extra time (the first match of this Bench football competition to do so?), with Nekonishiki being sent home, and Jejima hoping to get to the finals and battle against his own son (if he gets that far!) for the Saucer!

Bench World Bowl Quarterfinals:-

(Losers are on the plane home. Winners progress to the Bowl Semifinals).

BWB8  Match 5:
Kaba (Switzerland) 1-0 Chiyonosora (Argentina)
Refioji - Nekonishiki
That's nice! My other son has also progressed - in the Bowl. Chiyonosora is headed home, though.

BWB8  Match 6:

Jakusotsu (Philippines) 0-2 Finngall (Sweden)

Refioji - Athenayama
Jakusotsu is out! Finngall can still acquire that Bowl!

BWB8  Match 7:
Tanetakahiro (Haiti) 1-2 Spytoneryu (Brazil)
Refioji - Jakusotsu
Tanetakahiro must also catch the plane. Spytoneryu 'bowls' on.

BWB8  Match 8:
Djodjoyoshi (Denmark) 1-1, 1-1 AET, 2-1 PK Fujiko (Jamaica)
Refioji - Achiyama
Oh, that's sad. My wife is on her way home after a tense penalty shoot out! Djodjoshi is has that Bowl in his sights!

Bench World Cup Quarterfinals:-

(Losers progress to the Plate Semifinals.

Winners progress to the Cup Semifinals).

BWC8  Match 9:
Meletyoshi (Spain) 1-0 Oyama (Netherlands)
Refioji – Nekonishiki
Meletyoshi remains in the Cup! Oyama has been moved to the Plate competition.

BWC8  Match 10:
aminoumi (Japan) 0-2 Koorifuu (Portugal)
Refioji – Achiyama
Koorifuu is another Cupper - and aminoumi becomes a Plater.

BWC8  Match 11:
Athenayama (Canada) 1-0 Mr Froggy (Colombia)
Refioji - Jakusotsu
Athenayama stays strong with the Cup a little closer - having defeated a stuffed toy, who will now be a possible obstacle in the Plate.

BWC8  Match 12:
Pitinosato (Australia) 0-1 Polimasa (Morocco)
Refioji - Athenayama
Pitinosato is now in the Plate - where he'll face a certain frog. Polimasa is still strong for the Cup!

Well, two reasons for that:

1. Teams from Oceania participated quite rarely in the past.

2. Tournaments are 7 games long even for the top 4 teams, and it used to be fewer than that before the 1980s.

I haven't checked. Just presumed it to be true ;-). But as Australia and/or New Zealand haven't qualified that often, I'm fairly sure it'll be true.
