Seiyashi 4,071 Posted November 27, 2023 Worth pointing out it's only Wakamotoharu's second MK in as many years in makuuchi. Given that he's turned in double digit KKs in the joi before, he ought to be back in short order.

WMH has displayed a level of consistency in the jōi that many short-lived sekiwake from my recollection have been unable to. I think we’ll see him back at the rank soon. I don’t think he’ll go any higher, however.

Akinomaki 39,805 Posted November 27, 2023 Sell-out of 6980 on day 15, after Atamifuji lost 10% left, another 10% after the final bout, after the yusho interview about 50% remained - NHK coverage ended there as well. By the time the NHK cup was awarded, about 10% remained, even less than that for the final kami-okuri ceremony that concludes the basho, about 17 minutes after the broadcast stopped at 18h JST. o

Feels like a lot of people not bothering to stay for the award ceremony shouldn't be surprising.

It is correct, you need to hustle to the various heya senshuraku parties that start around 6pm-ish. only the yusho winner’s party starts a little later.

Jakusotsu 5,815 Posted November 28, 2023 I just realized that Ura will finally make it to Komusubi after generating lots of hype eight years ago. I guess most have given up hope by now.

I'm amazed he managed to come back from the knee injuries and establish himself as a joi regular.

At this stage, I've already suffered from "Miss Them Only After They're Gone" syndrome too often in regards to unique rikishi, I'm determined to focus on enjoying Ura for as long as he sticks around. Over on the promotion/demotion thread, we consider Ura pretty much a certainty. It definitely won't be Wakamotoharu—they haven't done that since the 1950s and they've promoted records like 8-7 at M5 and 9-6 at M8 to komusubi over a 6-9 S.

I don't think it would have been Atami even if he'd won his last match, which would have given him an argument. Thankfully, he made it easy on us so we can be joyous for two months instead of two weeks.
