If Hokuseiho ever learns how to do sumo everyone's in trouble. Fortunately for his opponents his skills have yet to progress beyond "I am very large."

I wonder what Hakuho is teaching him?

- Never do anything at tachiai, just wait.

- Always stand upright like a tree.

- Use your right hand only, the left one is for wiping your ass. 

- Make sure you extend the bout length as much as you can, you are paid by the minute.

Or probably Hakuho fears that Hokus will become too dominant and break all his records, so he's been teaching him nonsense stuff to hold him back

That's really the point though. Despite being unfinished goods, Asanoyama couldn't handle him. Ura had to through everything but the kitchen sink at him to beat him. The guy fights everyone with one arm and is still winning. His shisho is the GOAT, who's too competitive to not make sure that his deshi are the best they can be. Once Hokuseiho fills out his body and actually learns to do sumo, he's going to be unstoppable.

I've heard that in most sports, sumo included, one does not acquire significant new techniques/skills past a certain age (say, 20?).  I have been tracking a lot of young rikishi coming up the ranks and they pretty much stick to the same ammo throughout their career.  Two very known examples: Shodai never fixed his head-high tachiai.  Takakeisho is still one trick pony.  Can Hokuseiho change his bad habit of fighting with one arm?  I sure hope so.  One thing going for him though is that he still has room to grow bigger (and hopefully stronger).  When he does, perhaps, he can still get yusho, fighting with one arm occasionally.  Heck, Takakeisho's one trick did wonders for him so far except making him the yokozuna.

Takakeisho might be the definition of one-sided, but he has a well-defined style at least. What is Hokuseiho's style? Not oshi, not classic yotsu - just "stand high and wait for the opponent to tire up and make a mistake".

I envision peak Hokuseiho to develop into a kind of Baruto/Akebono hybrid, with the ability to use his height and strength to tsuridashi his opponents, and then add some tsuppari to go along with the yori he already has. That combination would be hard to beat.

Baruto was carrying his opponents out of the dohyo, and Akebono was pushing them out. Hokuseiho is doing neither at the moment.
