Wakamotoharu's gonna have to wait even longer for an Ozeki run.

This might be his ceiling. But we said it before...

So just to be clear, there are multiple sanshō records broken this basho, although how far broken is to be seen:

1) Most kantōshō: the previous record was 3, the record is now broken wih 5, and may still go to 6 if Hōshōryū wins.

2) Most sanshō awarded (even if one rikishi gets multiple sanshō): the previous record is 6, and we're now at 7 and could go to 8. Again, if Hōshōryū wins.

3) Most distinct rikishi awarded with sanshō: the previous record is 5, we're now at 6, and could go to 7 again if Hōshōryū wins.

4) Fastest sanshō: previous record was Ichinojō in 5 basho from debut, now is Hakuōhō with 4 from debut.

5) Longest sanshō: Nishikigi with 103 from debut.

His legs need to keep up if he is to ever make ōzeki. That manner of losing has long since become sadly predictable.

Aww. I would've liked to see what they'll do with Hoshoryu and Daieisho both at 32 wins. Might as well root for Hoshoryu to remove all doubt with 33 now, I guess.

I am sure Hokutofuji wants Hakuoho to win. He has higher chance against a rookie Hakuoho than ultra motivated Ozeki contender Hoshoryu.

Well funnily he beat super motivated Hoshoryu earlier but lost to rookie Hakuoho......

Hot damn, I haven't heard the crowd explode like that just for the preliminaries in a very long time.

Hōsh pulling out his very best surly face. Hakuōhō taking after his shisho in terms of pre-bout calm.

Heard Hokutofuji is getting pressure training from Takayasu. It's over already.

Ōzeki promotion has to be confirmed. Hōshōryū guarded the cup from two maegashira upstarts. That is the whole point of an ōzeki.
