Kaninoyama 1,653 Posted July 23, 2023 Good to see Meisei eek out a kachikoshi. Always feels like he should win more than he does.
Akinomaki 39,515 Posted July 23, 2023 (edited) We're already at six sansho now, record tied. Nishikigi first sansho after 103 basho is the slowest ever, Hakuoho after 4 the fastest ever. The last with two sansho on makuuchi debut was fellow Tottori Johoku corporate yokozuna Ichinojo https://www.sanspo.com/article/20230723-T2KVD42P6RPBPJJI4JQXR5YPTM/ Edit: the paper counts two sansho for the same person as two people, a maximum of 8 people to get one today - also a result of the ambiguity of the Japanese language, with nin/people being a counter for persons - they rather count people than things, even if it is for the things Edited July 23, 2023 by Akinomaki

According to Wikipedia, he was a student at Tottori Jōhoku's sister school, Tottori Nishi Junior High, and a member of its sumo club. Presumably the connection came by way of a joint training session or something.

visitor_22 27 Posted July 23, 2023 I am sure Hokutofuji wants Hakuoho to win. He has higher chance against a rookie Hakuoho than ultra motivated Ozeki contender Hoshoryu.

He has gone 8-7 and 9-6 in the two basho preceding; he will have to maintain double digits for 2 more basho. He's also only ever gone 11-4 back to back once before, and that in the lower half of makuuchi.
