Do those Latin quotes have any relevance or are they just lorem ipsum?

Total lorem ipsum. I cannot find the "lorem ipsum" part itself but I'm positive that's taken from some piece of Latin literature. Either that, or "inventor of truth" (inventor veritatis) is for some reason part of Hoshoryu's unknown skills (UNKNOWN part of the chart there).

They look like total gibberish to me - probably autofill with the same sort of thing as lorem ipsum, but using different words so it's not as obvious.

By the way, all this talk of a Wakamotoharu henka is bizarre. He slightly touched Hoshoryu before being completely airborne to the side, so obviously that wasn't a henka (Jumpinginecstasy...)

Hoshoryu almost got a leg. Too bad he wasn't able to do an Ashitori. (Injonokuchi...)

This might be the post of the year.

Except that we've already established that they didn't come up with it.

Pain is to be lauded, doloremque laudantium could be the motto of Miyagino-beya, especially for Hakuoho and Kiho (and the 3 already dropped from sekitori/ 2 completely out)

but both of them are going to earn a talking to for pulling henkas in their bouts today.

Mentioned in the PDY thread, but calling it:

Basically Oguruma oyakata is so upset with Daieishō's and Wakamotoharu's henkas that he lost his appetite for dinner.

I mean, he has a lot of "reactionary old fart" moments, but by the numbers he was one of the best ōzeki. I don't begrudge him getting irritated with two ōzeki potentiates pulling henka back to back.

Considering none of those conditionals are facing each other, that could be a ton of Kantosho.  But to be expected.

http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query.aspx?show_form=0&group_by=basho&form1_ks=on

Record amount of kantōshō given out, if true. The previous max record was 3. We have a decent chance of not just matching that but going beyond.

http://sumodb.sumogames.de/Query.aspx?show_form=0&group_by=basho&form1_ss=on&form1_ks=on&form1_gs=on

We also have a decent chance of matching the number of sansho ever given out in one basho, 5.

Is this a record amount of kantōshō being given out?

They've never given out more than 3 of the same type before.  Kanto-sho has hit 3 on numerous occasions, other sansho only once.

Also, the most total sansho they've ever given out before is 6.  That's quite likely to be broken as well.

DB query shows 5 in Haru 1994?

Also possibly seven different sansho winners in one basho. Hard to query, but that has to be a record as well.

There's at least 2 basho with 6.  Hatsu 1992 had 2 each.  Hatsu 2020 had 6 spread differently.  I'm not sure what you're querying, but it might be the number of disinct winners.

I know why now. It is indeed the number of distinct winners (w/o regard to how many each of them won) When all sanshō are selected on the query page, it returns the number of different rikishi who were awarded a sanshō, not the number of sanshō given out. Hatsu 1992 had the sanshō concentrated in Akebono and the Hanada Brothers, so it only returns 3.

That query answers this question instead. The record seems to have been 5 separate sanshō winners in Haru 1994: 2K (Takatoriki and Terao), 2G (Oginishiki and Kotonishiki), and 1S (Kaiō). Matched also in Natsu 1998 and Hatsu 2020 (6 total prizes given out as Tokushōryū was given SK to go with the yūshō).

Cheers. I thought checking all boxes yields only rikishi who won all of them.

Also, if I didn't overlook someone else, Hakuōhō should be the youngest sanshō winner since Hakuhō himself (although this was done on a "likely suspects" basis as it's not easy to query). If he wins the yūshō, he should be the youngest yūshō winner since Takanohana II, and if the legal age for drinking hasn't changed since, will be the first since Takanohana II to not be able to drink the celebratory sake at the afterparty.

This almost came up a couple of times before, but if Hakuoho were to yusho, it would be 109 years since a shin-nyumaku yusho. Ichinojo was the most memorable in recent years to almost get that yusho, foiled by Hakuoho's shisho
