What? How exactly? One could easily see that Tochinoshin was "done" before he actually got done. Compared to that all's well with Yasu.

Papayasu looks done going for yushos etc.. I guess, he will hang around I bet.

I think there may be some conflating happening with "Takayasu looks done" to "Takayasu IS done".

He's out of contention this tournament and as stated earlier, the way he's losing is unlike him. He seems mentally defeated. I just want him to drop out and get his head/body right for September.

Now 1-5 at M15, I'm assuming there will only be one more bout in the ozumo career of Tokushoryu.

Tomokaze moves to 10-2 and holds onto the sole lead in juryo. I love a good comeback story; glad to see him doing so well.

It's not just a 6-day losing streak, it's the way he is losing.

Other rikishi have posted horrible scores as well. Kotoekou has had 2-13 twice. Ryuden same score once. And the sumo hasn't been pretty. Are they done too?

Can't be determined at all.

Tokushoryu voiced his wish to become Oyakata. He will probably hang on as long as he has to, until a kabu becomes available. Might be after the basho, might be in two years.

With that dire kabu situation at the moment, I assume the latter (but hope for the former).

Indeed. Just look at Fujiazuma who is toiling endlessly.

At this rate, we might see a former yusho winner in Sandanme. How often did it happen before?

Gotta love Kotoeko!  He beats Hokuseiho in a spirited match.  The latter need to figure out how best to use that size of his.

Hokuseiho refuses to go lower. With his massive size, he could be unstoppable if he ever tried.

With these long legs it has to be/feel awkward for him to go lower. Might be bad for the knees? Maybe he's trying to minimise risk of injury (?).

Toku may even be the favorite to take over Kise beya although the current oyakata doesn't reach retirement age for another 11 years

Man, imagine if Hokuseiho had that trademark Mongolian killer instinct... he would be an unstoppable monster. He'll get better over time but aggression and drive are not things you can teach, you either have them or you don't.

I wonder whether being raised in Japan made him "softer".

Personally think it's the injury concern. Dude knows his legs are both a blessing and a curse, so is trying to minimize any potential damage (though personally I think they will go hurt either way.)

Was it when you posted the exact same thing 6 days ago? He's still co-leader going into day 13, and yusho or not it's been a once in a life basho for him.

And nice win for Shonannoumi, his impressive run of form has continued into makuuchi.

It was a question back then the same way it is now.

Ya, so what do you think?

Considering he'll still be co-leader going into day 13 I'd say his story certainly isn't over, whether he wins it or not.

Is this the end of Nishikigi's Cinderella story?

Not yet.  It has gotten tougher though.  He faces Hakuoho tomorrow.  Not an easy task after a loss.

If it comes to a play-off, would you favour him against Hoshoryu, for example?

No I wouldn't, but if he's in a playoff clearly his story won't have ended on day 12.

You got me there, "beginning of the end" would be more appropriate.
