And it's Melitopol (Меліто́поль) for Shishi.

Yep, sorry, typo.

Too soon to say that apart from the 1st 6 months in 2018, where he did great ozeki deserved sumo, he was just an upper maegashira rikishi with an inability to beat the higher ranks?

Well, since that opinion has been suffusing the discussion for about three years now, it's more likely too late than too early.

Without the controversial decision in the Asanoyama bout Natsu 2019, it may have turned out to be his 2nd yusho basho and he that one to get the Trump cup.

Aye, but it's getting off topic in this particular thread.

Maybe split it off?

Maybe into a book?

"The Linguistic Emergence of Euphemistoid Code Words in the Context of Self Analyses of Post-Neo-Post-Structuralist Societies."

Old and broken is sadly how I mostly got to see him. Watching highlights from a decade ago, I would've very much enjoyed his sumo then.

His yusho and Ozeki run in 2018 was an amazing ride.

Seconding this, since I got into sumo just after his promotion.

Can anybody tell me why the absence/withdrawel of Tochinoshin does not appear under „Absent Rikishi Info“ on the NSK site?

He's not absent. He's not part of it anymore. Same reason why his basho score will be stuck at 0-6, no absences registered.

Edit: a more mundane comparison; if you are gone from a job you quit, your employer won't mark you as AWOL from there onwards.

Farewell big guy!

His tsuridashi during the yusho and Ozeki run is something that will be long remembered, POWER in capital letters.

His former tsukebito expressed their thanks: Tochimitsuru at his interview today after his 3rd win, by the rare amiuchi - tsukebito since last year Aki till this basho. He learned from him how to fight on with a completely battered body. Tochimaru yesterday, Tochinoshin was the first he served as tsukebito, 2012-2013, also Tochiseiryu, responsible tsukebito the year before last, he was one of those who carried him on their shoulders at the ozeki promotion photo. http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2023/05/21/kiji/20230521s00005000297000c.html

Tochinoshin did much better than Kokkai though. I wonder what Kokkai, Baruto or Aran upto these days? Remembering Baruto, he was the best. Humble giant.
