Akinomaki 37,059 Posted April 18 (edited) The gomen fuda for the basho was put in place today the poster lacks something interesting - I guess it means: nobody is standing out at the moment Edited May 14 by Akinomaki 5
Akinomaki 37,059 Posted April 28 (edited) The schedule of the oyakata talk events at the sumo museum was published https://www.sumo.or.jp/KokugikanSumoMuseum/ 30 persons per event, 11h-11:40h, 1000 yen, applications start on May 1st at the site - I might try to get a ticket for Ikioi - another option for me would be Kotoyuki There is a roulette from 12:00-16:00h each day for fan club members, also the free juryo course, where you can get sumo goods: cards, ramen ... https://www.sumo.or.jp/Watching/guide/tokyo/room/617/ Not many extra rules: no handshakes or autographs from the rikishi - like before, you mustn't bring food or drinks to the kokugikan. I don't think it was put this harshly in the past: it is forbidden to watch from other seats than your own - which is what everybody used to do in the past during early hours, only the access to the lower level was restricted to those with tickets there from about the start of makushita onward. https://www.sumo.or.jp/Watching/guide/tokyo/nursing/617/ The Corona guidelines and basic rules are still on the page, it will be interesting to see how the behavior of the spectators turns out this basho, with Corona recognized as just one of many diseases of group 5, like influenza, hepatitis A, tetanus and measles Edited April 28 by Akinomaki

Benevolance 2,356 Posted May 2 Smart money is on Mitoryu. He'll be ranked in prime yusho territory. 3
Benihana 1,807 Posted May 2 Like i said in my poll, this is Makuuchi and not Sandanme seal clubbing. If he wants the cup, he has to work for it.
RaeucherLax 276 Posted May 3 (edited) There's news on Twitter that Ichinojo is about to retire. Unfortunately I can't research it on the Interweb as I don't understand Japanese but it fit posted by Tachiai blog and several others. I would've opened a new thread but it's probably better if somebody who can offer more information does it. Kintamayama 42,367 Posted May 12 The Natsu (May) basho starts this Sunday May 14th and will run through May 28th. Wakatakakage is out due to injury. Yokozuna Terunofuji back after 4 basho, Takakeishou back after withdrawing mid-basho last basho. Kiribayama needs double digit wins to be promoted to Ozeki. "The numbers and the content will be important," said Sadogatake Oyakata, head of the judging department. Daieishou is being considered for promotion too, as he had 10 wins at Maegashira 1 and 12 wins last basho at Komusubi. "It's more complicated since his streak started off at Maegashira, but there is precedent, so we''ll have to see how his basho goes and look at the content.." added Sadogatake Oyakata. As for Terunofuji- "He seems fine but when he retreats it seems he gets into trouble. His muscles have not 'fallen' and once he gets the mawashi he is very strong. I'd like him to show Yokozuna-like sumo," he added. "Takakeishou looks well, no taping on his knees. His moving forward and pushing power are there. It's still a problem when he gets pushed back with that injured knee, no taping notwithstanding," summed the Oyakata. 4
Akinomaki 37,059 Posted May 12 (edited) Kitanofuji (81) is again kyujo for the basho on NHK http://www.sanspo.com/article/20230512-YKEMLNTKA5EDZJ4NJJPLNAMQZM/ The basho is sold out, one masu seat C left in the resale o and 2 chair seats D - should be gone soon - no tickets for the day. The 11th and 12th row of the masu B seats is sold for 2 persons, as is like long ago the last row of the C seats o The chanko space below is open from 11a.m. on now o - it was 12 noon in the past and I had to skip the yokozuna dohyo-iri and the kaobure to get an early meal, now I won't miss these extremely rare events Edited May 12 by Akinomaki

Akinomaki 37,059 Posted May 12 Seems like the dohyo matsuri is once more not open to the public and without the sanyaku rikishi - opposed to the announcement that all Corona measures are cancelled - instead again broadcast live on YT
Benevolance 2,356 Posted May 12 Shodai is on an ozeki run, too, right? He just needs to pick up 17 wins this time around? 2
Akinomaki 37,059 Posted May 13 No public and no rikishi at the dohyo matsuri - Corona hysteria is still prevalent at the NSK headquarters, Osaka was advanced oooo oo at least the rikishi were allowed to attend their yusho portrait presentation o o 1

Katooshu 2,713 Posted May 14 Well that settles it, Onosato might as well retire right now, clearly he's not very good at sumo. 1
Akinomaki 37,059 Posted May 14 The shisho wants him to go slow, he said he doesn't care for speedy promotions. And Nakamura-Onosato only aims for kachikoshi this time.
