But Konhō itself is a very good shikona

So you're telling me that after pages and pages of posts, and allusions to 1200 years of Japanese and Chinese history, this guys going to end up with a shikona that sounds like "Cornhole'?  Wow.

In English, too (see above).  I'd be surprised, but not shocked.

Daisenhou would be the coolest. That's literally Great (大) Mountain (山) Phoenix (鵬), basically Taiho plus 'mountain', perhaps the most popular kanji in sumo. Sure, that's just because the locals didn't try very hard in naming their volcano ("I guess 'Big Mountain' will do"), but if I were Ochiai I'd take it.

No primary source, but Herouth claims Hakuhō wants Ochiai to be Hakuhō II.

A bit too much, isn't it? Perhaps if the boy gets the Ozeki rank he could get it, but right now it would be too soon.

Also, this would mean that Hakuho expects Ochiai to be his best pupil, which implies no Nakamura at Miyagino. Actually, if word of it ever got to Nakamura himself, he could look for revenge and move to the court of the only oyakata with some Hakuho sweat under his belt, i.e. Kisenosato. What if the future of sumo will be a rivalry between Hakuho II vs. Kisenosato II? (Beingninja...)

Perhaps it will go down the same way as Wakanohana I and Wakanohana II. The 2nd Waka got the prestigious shikona only when he became yokozuna, even though he wasn't blood related to his stablemaster the 1st Waka. If that's Hakuho's vision, will Ochiai get a "temporary" shikona before he gets promoted to the highest rank(s)?

  • 伯耆鵬 (Hōkihō) - Hōki is another name for Hakushū province. Sounds a lot like Hōkahō so maybe not likely

Hoo (Houou) usually 鳳凰, the firebird - the name of an ancient ozeki of Miyagino-beya, but for him 鵬桜, with the sakura from Kotozakura (the yokozuna from his hometown Kurayoshi)

new shikona Hakuoho 伯桜鵬, I expected some sakura from Kotozakura, a different Haku than in Hakuho, from a local mountain, Mt. Daisen, also called Hokidaisen https://www.yamakei-online.com/yamanavi/yama.php?yama_id=832
