Metasumo 2023

Recommended Posts

"I guess now it's time for me to give up, I feel it's time...(Whistling...)

*... to kick-off the METASUMO 2023 edition today!

It's a simple game for everyone where you choose the GAMERS you think will get the most points in the Superbanzuke Masters series. Go to this link and choose ONE player from each of the groups below:

1-5
6-10
11-20
21-40
41-80
81-120
121-200
201+

for a total of eight players. If you would like to choose one of the promising new players WHO ARE NOT listed in the 2022 final standings, please place them in the 201+ category.

Please post your picks in this thread. The deadline is Shonichi of the Hatsu Basho 2023.

As the game is struggling with participants lately, the winner gets a 2024 Sumo Calendar (or something (yusho) equivalent, depending on interest). I hope this to be an extra motivation to

GET YOUR ENTRY IN soon. (Order, order!)

Good luck to all of you and Messi Christmas!

Now lets get serious:

1-5    Joaoiyama (because he performs much better than Neymar jr.)
6-10    Pandaazuma (I'm sure he would be Englands best penalty taker)
11-20    Ganzohnesushi (pure self-confidence)
21-40    Athenayama (Rehakles would be proud of him)
41-80    Mariohana (will he take some joints when making his picks?)
81-120    Jejima (hopefully a better choice than Pearce, Waddle, Southgate...)
121-200    Metzinowaka (should perform much better than Hertha BSC)
201+    Randomitsuki (I simply don't give up the hope he joins the Sumo game world again)

Let me add that if we reach at least 40 players I'll offer also a movie on DVD or BD to the winner at his/her convenience. ;-)

First of all any pick in the top 20 would worth it but we have to make choices.

1-5            Susanoo (a face value).
6-10          Kaito (I'll be very happy to beat him each time I'll face him in H2H as I owe him some but the thing is that the past years he's been really good in the Super Banzuke Master Series).
11-20       Andoreasu ( He belongs more to the top 10 and I see him there in 2023).
21-40       Athenayama (the gap between #21 and #40 is small these last years and as I aim for a top 20 in 2023 so why not me?).
41-80       Hana-ichi (For Yokozuna! She's progressing almost each year).
81-120    BlackPinkMawashi (I have no idea who he/she is but I see some potential there).
121-200 Beeftank/Sumo Spiffy (Yeah he's the same guy just trying to fool us) (my "secret weapon" even if someone else had the same idea!)
201+       Gernobono (What's he doing here???)

Well, I guess can play more of the games on the list... if I can figure out what some of them are. (I know there's a list, but it's long!)

1-5: Susanoo
6-10: Pandaazuma (I should note that I have no idea how anyone does, so this was between Panda and Owl because animals)
11-20: Andoreasu
21-40: Athenayama (I had to flip a coin between you and Jak, because you're both in the same bracket... boo)
41-80: Mmikasazuma
81-120: BlackPinkMawashi (because pink mawashis always win)
121-200: ME! (as Athena says, I go by Beeftank on outside sites and Sumo Spiffy here; apologies if this causes issues, and if my two identities have to be kept separate because combining them is a pain in the ass, I understand. If I have to choose one, go with Beeftank).
201+: Gernobono

I trust your coin because one of them is ranked way too high. ;-)

1-5            Oskanohana  (I wouldn’t bet he’ll end up two points short again)
6-10          Pandaazuma  (No safer bet than that the bear will finish higher this year)
11-20       Flohru  (His play is consistently exemplary)
21-40       Athenayama  (I continue to move across the continent)
41-80       Kintamayama  (my choice was confirmed upon video review)
81-120     Survivor  (A soul survivor, that’s what I’m talking about)
121-200   DeRosa  (Trender is a winner regardless of the name he plays under)
201+        Randomitsuki  (The once – and future? - king)

Just a note. As I see he's quite popular in the picks, it becomes urgent to clarify what shikona will be used as he appears in two different groups. The earlier this will be managed, the more time people will have to correct their picks. I'm of course talking about "Beeftank / Sumo Spiffy".

I realize this name does show up the 201+ bracket, but with regards to games, I only use it on the forum. In anything that takes place on other websites, I use Beeftank, and as far as I can tell, in Metasumo, Guess the Banzuke is the only game that takes place on the forums. So, even if the GTB points keep getting applied to Sumo Spiffy, it won't add up to much.

Thank you @Athenayama for pointing this out (I was forum-absent for a while).

Fortunately the MDC had its annual "happy new year" meeting a few hours ago. It was clarified that we only go with Beeftank in group 7 here as it is the main shikona for the SB games.
Please consider though that if "Sumo Spiffy" gets any points in GTB, theese will be added to "Beeftank" regarding Metasumo points. The council reffered to a similar case regarding Kyoju who played GTB with his forum shikona Tameiki.

In addition the council members added that they want Sumo Spiffy to go all out in 2023 and to perform well in the SB games. I answered that this wasn't even the question but was greatful for their useful advice.

So in the end, there is no need to correct any picks. Please only choose Beeftank in group 7 so that we have consistency in relation to the already made picks.

I'm a little scared to not take DeRosa in the 121-200 range. Don't let me down, Spiffy!
