I follow a bunch of Japanese YouTube channels that show the matches. They are all still around.  I have a feeling they are only after the foreign content creators - those who are enabling sumo fans outside of Japan.  Granted, the sample of YouTube channels I follow is likely not fully representative - but with Jason, Natto, and Mt. Family Jewels all going down - you have to wonder if there is some sort of selection bias at work.

Look at these developments alongside the recent posts about the fiscal year results of the Kyokai.  They do not have to be losing money like this.  Their "financial hemorrhaging" is from self-inflicted wounds.  Put the work into an English language channel like Mt. Golden Orbs and Natto - and charge a reasonable amount.  I will pay, and I assume others would too (I mean - for the content creators, given how many hours that are put into the work, it may be worth it for them to pay and cease compiling these daily summaries if the price and quality of an NSK produced product is reasonable).

In the meantime - all we can do is hope that our content creators are inspired to continue to make excellent work, no matter how many times they may be struck down.  Just come back more powerful than they could possibly imagine.

Are there any left that use NHK footage instead of Abema or self-shot footage?

Bet NHK and NSK are trolling these threads.... just looking for links to YouTube Channels. But not for the same reason you and I are looking for those links :)

Yes - I still see a few that are clearly NHK or Abema...

For fun I asked Bard (google ai) why are sumo videos being taken down

Sumo videos are being taken down because of copyright infringement. The Japanese Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) owns the copyright to most sumo footage, and they have been cracking down on unauthorized use of their content. This has led to a number of sumo channels being shut down, including Natto Sumo's channel and Jason's All-Sumo Channel.

NHK has argued that they need to protect their copyright in order to maintain the integrity of the sumo sport. They have also said that they are trying to make it easier for fans to watch sumo online by providing their own streaming service. However, many fans have criticized NHK for their actions, saying that they are making it difficult for people to enjoy sumo outside of Japan.

Some fans have taken matters into their own hands by downloading and archiving sumo videos. This has helped to preserve some of the footage that has been taken down, but it is not a sustainable solution. The best way to ensure that sumo videos are available to everyone is for NHK and the JSA to work together to create a more accessible way to watch sumo online.

You should keep in mind that it's not the NSK who is shutting down our hero but copyright owner NHK. Big difference.

I was OK until a few hours ago when it actually hit me that it's all gone, although I have all backups and it's entirely my fault for being an idiot. It's like someone that's been with me for 12 years is suddenly dead. Yeah, lousy example, but that's how I feel right now.  I sat down and wrote a loong letter to NHK in English explaining why I think they are wrong. I'm not expecting a miracle or even an answer. As for Japanese channels still operating, can someone give me a concrete channel that still shows NHK bouts?

As an aside, everything is alive and well on Twitter - every day at least three people are uploading all bouts, some including Juryo. Quality sucks, but who am I to talk about quality..

And I did get a some answers there as well, but not what i was looking for- Japanese channels that show highlights like I did, not those that stream live-those i know quite a few, some on YouTube even..

I found some, but always just ripped from ABEMA or somehow the NHK footage but no commentary (Juryo and lower in that case).

The only one I found with NHK commentary was filming the screen with a phone, and it wasn't digest, just some scattered individual bouts.

Sorry about the big pain inflicted on you for no real reason :(

Dang. Kinta was my into to sumo many years ago. I watched every one of his archived videos as well.
This is indeed heartbreaking.

This CAN'T be the end.

Count on me! Count on us, Kintamayama!

Your Youtube channel was just an URL to your work, to your wisdom, humor and wit. We need your online and you'll do what needs to get online with our help, this is not the end.

Another place? Maybe. But the sumo crowds needs your videos and commentaries.

nope nope nope nope

Zannen, Kintamayama-san

Have you tried Dailymotion? As we have known, Miselet has full sumo coverage (although it's from Abema and uploaded not as soon as the day ends) and still going. There are some channels that uploads NHK's tv program, those channel's videos is going save (at least until I made this message).

It could be that NHK hasn't really tweaked to stuff being on Dailymotion, but that site will still hit people with copyright penalties if copyright holders report their work has been uploaded to the site. Regardless of specifics, I think there has to be a reason Natto uploads to five sites but not Dailymotion (or Vimeo, another reasonably large one).

NHK stuff on Dailymotion disappears after a while. Vimeo hosts the official NSK Archive Basho digests of about 20 old basho so far from the last 60 years, open for grabs if you find the video number - I guess they'll change that, should someone from the sekiwake course publish them.

End of the backup as well. Someone is feeding NHK all the links. I don't believe NHK are actually hunting us, but someone definitely is.

How would someone feed the links to NHK? They must get a lot of emails and correspondence, seems incredibly efficient of them to action these emails about people from outside Japan uploading sumo highlights on Youtube. Feels like it's more likely someone is being paid to find the links and do the takedowns.

Just seems like this will be the new normal when you upload on Youtube, Natto is putting his videos on some of the other video sites but all of them have problems in some way, alongside the fact nobody uses them comparatively. Feels like no matter how much you try to make people aware of these other places, you're still gonna get threads on Reddit called "Natto Gone?!?!?" by people who haven't gotten the message at all. Can see how it feels like a losing battle sometimes.

You can get striked even on hidden videos that you’ve never shared with anyone if the org has finger prints to run through the checker, I believe.

https://www.streamingmedia.com/Articles/Editorial/Featured-Articles/YouTubes-Digital-Fingerprints-How-Content-ID-Protects-Videos-78358.aspx?utm_source=related_articles&utm_medium=gutenberg&utm_campaign=editors_selection

I guess what happened is someone in NHK got hired in that knows how to upload the reference material to YouTube instead of doing manual searches. Or they hadn’t done that in past for sumo and have started to since NSK is growing it’s own archive.

I really don’t think anyone is leaking links back to them. Maybe though

In a surprising turn of events, I received a mail from nhk that my channel will be fully reinstated with an apology that they were wrong and that they now fully understand the importance of what I do. No official date as to the return, but dates are not important..
