Tamawashi is the oldest sekitori (a rikishi ranked in either Makunouchi or Juryo). He has just turned 38 this month (November).

In 2022, he had three KKs and three MKs. Rather incredibly, he actually won the yusho (his second in Makunouchi) in September, with a fine 13-2 record.

He will probably be ranked in the joi-jin (upper ranks, just outside of the sanyaku) for the January 2023 banzuke.

Will 2023 be another yusho winning year for the veteran? Or is this the year that he will hang up his mawashi?

Please include your predictions (be as precise as you can!) in the comments below. :-)

Please also include in your comment your guess for either

a) Tamawashi's rank on the January 2024 banzuke

or

b) Tamawashi's final banzuke rank before he goes intai in 2023

(These might well be used as a tie-breaker!)

I see another year of him.  He'll last through Hatsu 2024 then the significant decline and intai later that year.  So, 3KK/3MK with a 10 winner in there in July or September and a big MK after it.

No intai, 3 kk, and a 12-3 best record. Bonus prediction is that will be a yusho.

He won't retire, but it will be a year of decline, so just two KKs, a kinboshi, and a 9-6 best. But he'll start 2024 ranked at M12E

Poll closed.

We don't seem t think that Tamawashi will retire this year. And why should he? He is looking to be in great form.

Nobody predicts that he will get more than 3 KKs this year - so 'average' at best there, with pretty much everyone choosing 2 or 3 wins!

Best record is suggested to be either 9 or 10 wins.

Well, Tamawashi didn't retire in 2023.  This was predicted by all but two of us.

Tamawashi had three kachi-koshis in 2023. This was predicted by a little over half of us.

His best record (twice) was 9-6.  This was predicted by almost half of us.

Okay, who (if any) got all three correct? Four players got all four correct, namely Hakuryuho, rokudenashi, Sumo Spiffy and Athenayama.

So, to the comments we go.....

Only Athenayama made a comment, so by default, the yusho goes to @Athenayama (Yushowinner...). The jun-yusho is shared between @Hakuryuho (Secondprize...), @rokudenashi (Secondprize...) and @Sumo Spiffy (Secondprize...).
