Takakeisho in 2023 (used to be the 'youngster's poll....)

Takakeisho began his Makunouchi career in January 2017 at the age of 20.  He began his sanyaku career in January 2018.  He won his first ever yusho in November 2018. He became an Ozeki (twice!) in 2019. In 2020, he won his second Makunouchi yusho, and his fourth Makunouchi jun-yusho. In 2021, he won his fifth and sixth jun-yushos. In 2022, he won two more jun-yushos.  It is now two years since his last yusho - has he already peaked?

He was the youngest rikishi in Makunouchi for every time that this poll was created for the first four years - but no longer from 2021 onwards. As of January 2023, I think he will be sixth youngest in Makunouchi.....  

How will this ?youngish? man (aged 26) do in 2023?

I can't see much changing. He'll be a solid ozeki, will win a yusho, but his style won't allow him to be consistent enough to get the rope. I had hopes for that before, can't see it happening now (unless he yushos in January....)

Barring injury, he's a perma-zeki.  Don't see him ever getting the tsuna.  I see him being more consistent this year and will go with 1Y, 3JY.  13-2 in the yusho (prior to return of the Yokozuna) and split 11-4/12-3 in the JY.  I see a pair of 9-6 in there to round out the totals.

If he is ever going to get his tsuna, this could be his year. Two yushos early on, and one jun-yusho, after he has become Yokozuna, and has eased off the gas a bit.

Most of us think that Takakeisho will tread water at Ozeki this year, with slightly over 25% thinking that he will go all the way to taking the tsuna.

It looks like a couple of people think that he might have a zensho-yusho at some stage - but most of us think he will end up with less than a 15 day streak. As his streak (after day 1 of the first basho) is now 7, he will need to lose sometime this week , or else most of us are already out of the running.

We all think that he gets at least one yusho/jun-yusho - but nobody thinks that he will be a serious yusho contender in more than half the bashos.

Takakeisho's rank will be Ozeki in January 2024, as predicted by Hakuryuho, Kashunowaka, just_some_guy, Wakawakawaka, WAKATAKE, Morty, Sumo Spiffy, Pitinosato, shimodahito, Shatsume, I am the Yokozuna and Athenayama.

His longest win streak in 2023 was 8 wins (January days 3 to 10 inclusive). This was correctly predicted by Kintamayama, Wakawakawaka, Pitinosato and shimodahito.

Takakeisho won two yushos and zero jun-yushos, for a total of two combined. Hakuryuho, Kashunowaka, Yarimotsu, Wakawakawaka, Morty, Sumo Spiffy, shimodahito and I am the Yokozuna all got this correct.

So, Wakawakawaka and shimodahito each got all three questions correct. Amazing! So, we need a play-off to decide the yusho. Let's check the comments.... Oh, neither made a comment

I don't really want to award the yusho to two players - despite them both 'acing' the poll.....

Hmmm.....  Okay, who did the poll first?  Wakawakawaka did the poll on December 13th, shimodahito on December 30th.

So, 15-0 yusho to @Wakawakawaka , after a play-off, and a 15-0 jun-yusho to @shimodahito . shimodahito has every right to feel a little hard done by, after losing by a tie-breaker that had not been announced when the poll was set up. However, he can take some satisfaction in having a 15-0 jun-yusho, an achievement that is highly unlikely to ever be seen in Ozumo!
