Japan to open to independent tourists Oct 11, 2022

Recommended Posts

I'm putting this announcement here since it means that we can go to Kyushu this year if we want to, so I consider it to be sumo-related.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced Thurs that Japan will be open to independent tourists effective Oct 11, 2022.  No visa required and no quarantine if you are from the US, and you must have proof that you've had 3 vax.  https://news.yahoo.com/japan-allowing-independent-tourists-visit-190753547.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall

Most of Europe, SE/E Asia, plus Canada and the US won't require quarantines either, if they retain the same colour-coded risk management system.

More importantly: Hakuhō's danpatsu ticket sales open 1 November. This announcement more or less guarantees you can attend should you be able to snag a ticket.

Sorry, I should have been more clear about the rules governing independent tourists from countries other than the US.  I looked at several articles and they mentioned that the rules could be different, of course, for other countries, but since the differences weren't spelled out, I focused on the US.

Great to know about the tickets for Hakuho's danpatsu.

No worries - I'm sort of assuming that they won't reshuffle countries, and so any country that's in the same "tier" as the US re quarantine requirements prior to the reopening will also be in the same tier. Best to check your own country nearer to the reopening, though.
