Yamanashi 2,961 Posted September 20, 2022 Enho finally realizes that to win a bout, all he has to do is be "spirited". With this new policy he runs the table and goes 9-6 on his way to a Makuuchi run.
Yamanashi 2,961 Posted September 20, 2022 Hokuseiho, on the other hand, collapse to go 8-7. Opponents realize that he's just standing up at the tachiai, so every opponent runs at him hard and knocks him over.
Benevolance 2,270 Posted September 20, 2022 Shodai was the only person who realized that this basho was finishing on opposite day, and he takes the yusho with a 14-1 record.
Yamanashi 2,961 Posted September 20, 2022 Deep thinkers in the Sumo Forum community are trying to understand what the underlying factors are to make this basho so strange after day 10. Some ideas: 1) Old boys are taking over Makuuchi (no, Nishikifuji is doing well, and the other old guys like Okinoumi are doing poorly). 2) Sanyaku has received a curse from somewhere; everybody assumes it's Shodai. 3) There's a gigantic conspiracy to make sure that a Japanese wrestler wins the Yusho (the "Chris" model) 4) The NSK, in league with the Bilderberg group and Sony, are fixing matches for some unknown but evil purpose (the Takatoriki model). Jakusotsu 4,905 Posted September 22, 2022 One of the most ridiculous of all (pre-basho!) predictions sadly won't come true, although there was a very real possibility: Tamawashi yusho on day 13.

Yamanashi 2,961 Posted September 23, 2022 At the end of the basho, NSK officials are alarmed to see very few double-digit winners, and the leader board looks like a delta function (in-joke for the stats crowd). Worried that interest in Makuuchi will collapse, they have their people test out a new name for the division: "A-League Juryo"

The 3-10 bit was a prediction and he let me down again! It's not easy being a Takarafuji fan, he always seems to end up as someone's whipping boy. I scoured the Kokugikan stalls for his merchandise on Tuesday and found nothing... until today when I received an offer from the Kyokai fan club - a mug capturing his historic tsutaezori loss to Ura...
