The NSK made a partner contract with Itoen, maker of Ooi-ocha, standard for green tea in plastic bottles at vending machines etc., also in the kokugikan. As official partner from this basho on, Itoen will also have advertisements on display and a special booth.

A contract as official top partner, top of 3 categories of such contracts, official partner and official sponsor are the others. Advertisements, booths at all basho this year, at the 3 Tokyo basho a photo booth is planned where you can do a dohyo-iri in a special kesho mawashi

We are pleased to announce that we have signed an official partnership agreement with the Japan Sumo Association (JSA).
“N-NOSE” will be provided free of charge once a year to members of the JSA, including Sumo oyakata (master) and rikishi (Sumo wrestler) who wish to use N-NOSE for their health management.
We will raise awareness of the importance of early cancer detection by using N-NOSE.
During the September Grand Sumo Tournament to be held at the Kokugikan this month, N-NOSE will be on display for 15 days, from the first day to the last day of the tournament.
A special booth will be set up on the second floor of the Kokugikan where “N-NOSE” test kits will be available.

Relationship between Sumo and Kibun

Sumo and Kibun, as part of Japan’s traditional culture, have a strong affinity for each other. This relationship began as an expression of our founder’s appreciation for the labor of the yobidashi announcers, as well as for the people who swept the ring and carried out other, usually unappreciated, tasks.

In 1929, at the age of 15, Kibun’s founder left Yamagata Prefecture and moved to Tokyo with the goal of becoming a top trader. He found support from the neighborhood and the people of Tsukiji (fish market).
Throughout his life, he valued his connections with the people of Tsukiji and their connection with Kibun. He also happened to be a sumo enthusiast, and gathered together other sumo enthusiasts in the neighborhood, forming a sumo club around 1932 when he was working in a rice shop.

In 1948, shortly after the end of World War II, when goods were in short supply, our founder heard about the situation of yobidashi and decided to give them costumes, which until then had to be provided by the yobidashi themselves.

The two characters for Kibun were not originally added to the costumes for advertising, but rather as a token of gratitude from the grand sumo promoters. These costumes, emblazoned with the company name, appeared unintentionally—as they did later before the world—becoming such good advertisements that the idea was copied by other companies.

The company that designed the hotel in 2019 posted videos of their work https://www.tokyo-odyssey.com/services/architecture/hotel/work-11990/

From a series on TV Tokyo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBQr1rYLuHY

It is the heya that ex-Chiyonoyama had constructed in 1970, yokozuna Kitanofuji and Chiyonofuji had trained there, before the heya moved. The Deluxe suite was the room of the oyakata.

The NSK has added a new category, on top: yobidashi partners with 7 so far. The first 3 are really those providing the attire for the yobidashi, who walk around with company names also when they don't carry kensho banners, including Nagatanien. Kibun changed from top partner to yobidashi partner, Natori is still that as well.
