Also here a recently rare day 1 appearance of Shodai with an unusually big bunch for him. Ichinojo did not have a that much bigger pack from beating Takakeisho, the sponsor's top favorite this basho, in a day 1  last ozeki bout. Ichiyamamoto with a that big number is a surprise, actually they mostly were on Ryuden: 5 from staffing agency Entry co. and a Moderna kensho. This basho they have them on Ryuden, Oho and after Haru again on Kotonowaka.

Shodai again dropped to minor numbers, a win against him was not enough to bring lossless Tamawashi back into the ranking, The 2 wins against Daieisho and Nishikigi had brought him 1 each, so he had 6 and the pack today had 6 more.

It is difficult to trace the Morinaga-sho this basho, Abema won't broadcast the announcement each day. Today it was on Hokutofuji, who is not in the rankings

Looks like Takakeisho will finish top this basho, since yesterday he's the only ozeki in the rankings. Nobody else will likely be able to surpass Terunofuji, so the 3rd place is open for grabs - who from below will be able to reach 100? Hoshoryu jumped back into the rankings (+31), quite a number must have been switched to the new last bout today. The sekiwake has the chance for 2 more big packs, but the biggest pack tomorrow is for the scalp of Shodai - Wakamotoharu might make it into the rankings. From now on the biggest pack for the last bout switches between ozeki.

Only 5 of the 20 kensho for Terunofuji today were canceled, 11 went to Hoshoryu, 2 to Takayasu vs Hokutofuji, 1 each to Ichinojo and Tamawashi against the 2 minor ozeki. https://www.sanspo.com/article/20220920-E6ADKE6KHBPSRBHQKWCDA2Z26A/

Wakatakakage made it into the rankings for the first time, pushing out Ichinojo, he had 9 kensho today. Tamawashi won't get enough kensho to get even close to 100, even if he wins all his remaining bouts: Tomorrow just 2, for the last 3 days 2 komusubi with minor packs left, who maybe have results too bad to meet him - he'll likely get Takayasu and Tobizaru and maybe Kotonowaka - not more than 5 kensho on average.

Takakeisho can still finish only 2nd, if the makekoshi ozeki he'll still meet suddenly remembers his rank, Nishikifuji is an  even harder opponent. 3rd place is open for all. Shodai made it back into the rankings, which likely have a record high for 10th place this basho. Mitakeumi needs a win to get back as well, but even then a place there in the end is not ensured, just as for Shodai - the remaining pack are quite big now though.

The same 10 as on day 13. The top 2 are fix now, the lower end still can reach 70, if Mitakeumi and Kiribayama win. Shodai and Takayasu can reach 100.

Only the top 2 are above 100, the top 10 lower end is just one short of 70 - I'm sure that's a record and an extremely even distribution of kensho this time

Most kensho so far in Corona times this basho: 1702. Most for one day was as always day 15, 161 kensho. https://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2022092500365&g=spo

With 1839 planned and not that many kyujo a bit low though, Terunofuji 6 days, the first day only 5 kensho were canceled, so these were likely his personal ones. Abi out was apparently not known when the first numbers were announced, but I don't think he had that much on him, so maybe the sponsors were annoyed by the top ranks performances and canceled several planned kensho. Several top bouts were canceled to pair sanyaku with low rankers, that may have had an influence as well.
