UDH Aki Basho 2022

Recommended Posts

Hello gamers,

the UDH entry form is ready now, and waiting for your selections. Rules in a (very small) nutshell: Guess the thirteen makuuchi rikishi you expect to have the fewest wins this basho.

You may submit your entry at http://udh.seisa.de/udh_index.html.

Once you have selected your team, please root for them as much as you can. The game was not intended to honor any failure, but to stimulate interest in the less successful rikishi.

The deadline for your entries will be the first day of the basho (Sunday, September 11th) at 12pm Japanese Time.

Good luck!

Midorifuji 17th on the all time high list in selection.  Not bad; probably would have been higher if there wasn't another option that looked good as well - Tobizaru - who also managed over 4 points per entry (93rd).  It's been unusual to get such high numbers recently with how low the churn in the joi has been; it took a really messed up basho to give us two new maegashira for the grinder.

Indeed. Last one to enter the list was Ishiura only six months ago, before that we have to look more than one year into the past (Kotoeko and Shimanoumi in 2021). None of them had such a prominent score, though. The last entry in the top 25 (currently 4.800+) before Midorifuji was Nishikigi in 2018.11 with a whopping 5.125 points. Like in Midorifuji's case, that was his first and only entry in the list so far.

Are there any records for worst score in this? I feel like having picked more than a win a day more than the next worst person so far must be some kind of especially bad.

The worst possible lineup of the basho is posted in each day 15 standings, but the UDH itsself has never tried to figure out how bad the worst of the players in each basho was - that would be a bit too meta :-)
