I have no idea why Toyoda Rinnosuke wasn't in the individuals, he won the yusho with the Kashiwa team, beating his home prefecture Kagoshima team with rival Shigemura in the sf, he won his bouts in the sf and final. His 2 teammates were in the individuals, apparently he is only no. 3 in the club and the 3rd place for Chiba went to another school. 団体戦決勝トーナメント準決勝決勝詳細.pdf

Middle school yokozuna is Nishimura from Tottori, beating Shigemura in the final. 個人優秀32名決勝トーナメント-準々決勝・準決勝・決勝詳細.pdf

Local Kagoshima TV had a news feature about Tokunoshima's Toyoda Rinnosuke - and his rival from Amami, Shigemura Konosuke, both aim for middle school yokozuna. https://www.kyt-tv.com/nnn/news1047pfoo25arv2zyujv.html

Toyoda is shown during training with a bloody bandage around the head - he is going all out. The news say he started sumo at age 1.

Toyoda won with the team for Chiba at the National prefectures middle school championships on Sunday in Sakai, Shigemura was on the Kagoshima team. The teams met, but the 2 had no bout against each others. (Live stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCzTOEq1qwM)

In the individuals Toyoda lost in the first round of the open weight best 16 final tournament o

Have not been particularly impressed with Toyoda over the last two national tournaments, especially for the amount of hype he receives - his rival Shigemura was much more impressive. Toyoda also needs to do some serious growing.

The big kid from Kumamoto who Nishimura beat in the semi finals was a standout - very powerful and composed. He bulldozed Kodoma Hayato in the individuals and a few weeks ago overwhelmed Toyoda in team competition. There was also a competitor who lost in the best 8 who otherwise had shown the best sumo until that point for me, he looked similar to Shigemura. I don't know many names at this level.......

Middle school yokozuna Nishimura, first for his school and after 15 years again this title for Tottori

2nd yusho for the Kashiwa team, the first was in 2017, with the present Kiryuko (son of ousted Tokitsuumi) in the team. At least Toyoda with most of the trophies - his, the last bout decided the yusho, after so far unbeaten Kodama Hayato had lost

Didn't know Shigemura is only in his 2nd year - makes his run extra impressive

Rival of Toyoda since early wampaku days.

The Grade 4 competition looks like a free-for-all at the moment, with semi-finalist Shigemura Konosuke being the only one on the list to have impressed at the Wanpaku Tournament this summer (he's actually the Wanpaku Yokozuna this year), though it is nice to see Tamiya Aiki getting his first ever outstanding result in a major tournament. The winner Toyoda Rinnosuke might be younger brother to Toyoda Rintaro, who is also from Tokunoshima Island in Kagoshima

Toyoda Rinnosuke (豊田 倫之亮)

Although not present at last year's Wanpaku Tournament, he is the defending Primary School Yokozuna, and was runner-up at the Hakuho Cup earlier this year. He qualified for Sunday's tournament at the expense of his Kagoshima compatriot and last year's Wanpaku Yokozuna Shigemura Konosuke, which makes Toyoda the favourite in this year group.

Toyoda is the 5th grade wampaku yokozuna, and 3rd with the Amami Oshima team (one from each grade is in a team):

Toyoda was also tachi-mochi for same year rival and last year 4th grade wampaku yokozuna Shigemura

The wampaku championships are sponsored by the NSK and the JCI Tokyo, supported also by the Sports Agency, Yomiuri shimbun and others.

Shigemura is from Amami Oshima

Amami island rivals Toyoda and Shigemura train for the 5th year event - Toyoda won in his 2nd and 3rd year, but lost last year to the Mongolian surprise winner Batnaa Byanbu

This year Toyoda (right, Satoyama team) won the yusho again, Shigemura (center, Meisei) was runner-up in the Amami final.

NHK interviewed the 3 members of the winning Kashiwa team as well as Nishimura, Toyoda said the sempai helped to make him strong, he's really good in the team and was the taisho in all his bouts, losing only one early on -

but,

maybe he would be stronger in the individuals had he stayed in Kagoshima

Tamiya, son of Kotomitsuki and thus another hype rikishi of the 2nd years lost to Nishimura in the best 16.

The younger brother of Hanada Hidetora made it to the qf, where he lost to Shigemura.

Interesting to see Kumamoto's Yuta Kuraoka finally getting one over his long time rival Hayato Kodama. Seeing how well both Shigemura and Toyoda did this year, it really hypes up their rivalry for next year. Imagine these two buddies facing off in another national final, just like in the Hakuho Cup 2 years ago. That would be lit.

Also, can we appreciated what a great job Coach Nagai has done at Kashiwa? He set up a dormitory on the second floor of his own home, which currently hosts 10 junior high school rikishi from around the country. Those same rikishi won both of the team championships this year.

Here's a short documentary from a few years ago featuring our new middle school yokozuna Kazuma Nishimura. He started sumo when he was only 7 years old, after losing to a smaller kid in a local tournament. Kazuma loves his mum's curry, and wants to become a yokozuna as strong as Hakuho.
