Churaumi 755 Posted July 18, 2022 Wasn't Hanaregoma one of the oyakata in the mono-ii for the mawashi incident on nakabi?

Seiyashi 4,109 Posted July 18, 2022 They should still have had masks on, to be honest. I don't see why the rikishi have to put them on heading into the shitaku but the shimpan, who aren't really doing anything that exerting (other than stepping onto the dohyō) are excused from masking up. 3

And they sit more or less in the crowd, unmasked. I know the crowd is masked, but masks are only so good. And you can see a lot of improperly worn masks. I'm not really surprised the shimpan are getting COVID.
Yamanashi 4,091 Posted July 18, 2022 I should have started the Ridiculous Predictions thread this basho -- but what could top reality? Here's one, though: By day 15, the yusho is between the two remaining Makuuchi wrestlers, Ichinojo (Minato, 10 rikishi) and Nishikigi (Isenoumi, 12 rikishi). [I hope I haven't missed the latest COVID kyujo news!]
Jakusotsu 6,430 Posted July 18, 2022 Might as well go to Tamawashi (Kataonami, 4 rikishi) who will collect six fusensho on the way.

I took the two best-performing rikishi with fewer heya members. The problem with Tamawashi winning at 9-6 with six fusensho is that the other two are likely to get some, too, and they only need three.

The good news is that not everyone who is exposed to the virus comes down with it. Someone may have answered this already. Did they test all the rikishi who fought against the ones who tested positive?

Yubinhaad 12,005 Posted July 19, 2022 More COVID carnage ahead of Day 11, also a pair of hopefully non-COVID kyujo: Jd28e Sawayaka (fusenpai Day 10) Jd67e Kyokushozan Hanaregoma-beya COVID kyujo: M13e Ichiyamamoto (fusenpai Day 9) J10e Shimazuumi (fusenpai Day 9) Sd31w Wakakinsho (fusenpai Day 9) Jd83e Shoran (fusenpai Day 9) Jd86e Wakaikki (fusenpai Day 10) Jk3e Wakayamanaka (fusenpai Day 10) (Sd35e Nakaishi was absent from the start) Musashigawa-beya is the latest heya to head for the sidelines, but the announcement didn't come until the Day 10 bouts were underway, so four of their rikishi fought their bouts (and all won!). Ms35e Tokunomusashi Sd8w Hinataryu (fusenpai Day 10) Sd13e Wayama Sd22e Goshimaru (fusenpai Day 10) Sd24w Shoji Sd51w Makio Sd64w Yokomaru (fusenpai Day 10) Jd12w Bushi Jd22w Ryubumaru Jd34w Mabuchi Jd52w Fujimusashi Jd69w Fubu Jd92w Mihonoumi Jd104w Naniwamusashi Jk9e Jokoki Jk13e Toramusashi (Sd32w Nakashima and Jd60w Chikunokura were absent from the start) 1
Nantonoyama 258 Posted July 19, 2022 This thing is getting more and more ridiculous... How will they treat all those rikishi? Will the rikishi absent from the begenning be granted rank protection? And those already make-koshi? (for sure they should be demoted, but to which extent?) And those already kachi-koshi? From now on they should either stop rank protection or mid-basho tests... covid is here to stay (who knows for how long, but in any case those exceptionnal temporary measures cannot be considered as exceptionnal temporary anymore) 1

Katooshu 3,485 Posted July 20, 2022 (edited) Three straight Tamanoi and 5 straight Sadogatake rikishi absent to start day 11..... Tamanoi sekitori are Azumaryu and Tohakuryu (supposed to face Akua and Enho today) Sadogatake have Kotonowaka, Kotoshoho, and Kotoeko (supposed to face Daiesho, Yutakayama, and Oho today) Edited July 20, 2022 by Katooshu

Surely more heya-wide exits. As with the Musashigawa withdrawal, apparently only after the day's action had already started - the very first Sadogatake rikishi, Kotofuno in jonokuchi, actually still competed, then the fusenpai parade began. Seiyashi 4,109 Posted July 20, 2022 It's gotten to the point where I'm scared of seeing updates to this thread or the Corona and Sumo thread, because it almost certainly means another heya exit.
