Unless they're brothers, the shared name is a coincidence. It was the same with Scandinavia correct? PeterSON EricSON etc. Ireland as well. Reonito 686 Posted September 9, 2022 Russian uses patronymics as well, but as middle names, not as surnames.

Seiyashi 3,462 Posted September 9, 2022 Spain and Malaysia are the other two places off the top of my head; Spain is slightly unique in combining both parents' names.

Spain (and the other Spanish speaking countries) does it with surnames. No patronymics. The difference that makes them unique, compared to most other western/central European cultures, is that the main surname isn't the very last, but the second to last. It goes: Given name(s) - father's surname - mother's surname. General shortening rules default to First Given Name + Father's Surname, but there are exceptions i.e. when the individual themselves make a point out of using the mother's surname either in lieu or in addition to the father's.

It's even worse when they use their second given name. So someone whose name is legally Alfredo Alejandro Bautista Gonzales goes by Alejandro Bautista. I have a client that's like that. We have their full legal name in our system to put on their tax return, and unless I know their client ID, I'd have to look for that legal name to find them, despite it not being their name they normally use. They also have a business which obviously is most of the work, so I put their personal client ID in the notes for the business client (which is easy to remember the ID for) just so it's easy to find them. But this has nothing to do with Aki recruits.

Just be glad that you don't have to deal with the hullabaloo of given name/real name/shikona/kabu the NSK employees entertain. 1
