He pulled a muscle when he stepped onto the dohyo yesterday for a mono-ii conference. 3 weeks to recover. https://hochi.news/articles/20220520-OHT1T51105.html Sure... Now excuse me while I drop off my tinfoil hat.
Yubinhaad 10,557 Posted May 21, 2022 Press reporting that M6e Ura is kyujo from Day 14. That would give Wakatakakage a fusensho and kachi-koshi.

Don't want to mess up them knees any further. Plus he has a 9 Win Kachi-Koshi which means he is up to probably M3, which given the right circumstances could allow him to sit out a basho, which makes his comeback more powerful then most Rikishi as others would let their guard down of his unpredictable ways. Just yesterday I thought, "at last a basho without sekitori going kyujo every other day" - hopefully Ura will be the last

Ura wanted to stay in, but Kise-oyakata (former Maegashira Higonoumi) put his foot down, saying that if he makes it worse it could end up with an even longer period of treatment.
Koorifuu 459 Posted May 21, 2022 Smart move. Given the logjam above his projected ranking for Nagoya, pushing himself for 1 or 2 extra wins wouldn't have made a difference. Glad to see he's saving his body.

Not to mention how unlikely those wins would have been, versus Wakatakakage and probably Kiribayama or someone else he definitely wouldn't be favored to beat. If he's smart enough to barrel roll off the dohyo to save his knees, he must be smart enough to see the wisdom in not fighting those guys, even if he wanted to. There's at least one other in recent times I can't quite remember at the moment. I sometimes wonder how no audience members have been prominently injured before, and wonder whether the rikishi are trained to try and aim for the shimpan or fello rikishi to keep the damage in house, as it were. Probably helps that the audience really only shows up for the sekitori whereas the shimpan are exposed all day, not to mention that liability is probably severely limited by volenti even if Japan were a litigious nation, which it is generally not.
