So the CoVid ban didn't hit him all too hard?

He hasn't been out. Do you think he's out for Covid?

Broken rib, Ōnoshō out for a month.

Both updates courtesy of RTs of news articles by Herouth.

Well, i mistook Kitanowaka for Kotonowaka. Put Kiribayama in front in most games, i'll need a lot of luck to not ruin everything.

In the lower divisions ahead of Day 7, one rikishi has returned after a few days out, but four others have to withdraw.

Returning:

Sd69e Chura (withdrew Day 3)

Withdrawing:

Ms14w Hatooka (fusenpai Day 6) - took a heavy fall from the dohyo in winning on Day 3, although he seemed fine immediately afterwards.

Sd72e Kyokuhozan

Jd56e Asasorai (fusenpai Day 6)

Jd87e Teraosho

I'm surprised not to see Jokoryu as a withdrawal after his left elbow was wrenched to an alarming angle in his Day 5 bout, hopefully he was lucky and no serious damage was done.

As an 80 year old, I first check newspapers for obituaries, and then Yubinhaad's posts for the kyujos.  (Consoling...)

Jokoryu actually scored a dominant win vs Tokunomusashi on day 7 with morozashi yorikiri. Just rub some dirt on it and walk it off.

Taiga (sd3) from Arashio beya is out. At the end of his last bout, he jumped from the dohyo to avoid a bad fall on his back or something... only to injure his leg :(

Thats a shame, this young guy had a great 2021 full of kks and reached makushita before falling back to sd. I hope he can come back healthy in Nagoya

Sd3w Taiga

Better the leg than the back, most of the time, to be honest. Especially when rikishi aren't wanting for added weight to strain the back.

Ahead of Day 11, two rikishi return (well, Chiyooga's basho never really got started), while one more has to drop out.

Returning:

Ms27w Chiyooga (fusenpai Day 1, withdrew Day 3)

Jd67e Wakaikki (withdrew Day 9)

Withdrawing:

Ms48e Hokutoryu (fusenpai Day 10) - he was limping a bit after winning his last bout, but it's not obvious what the problem was.

A note about Taiga, Arashio-beya mentioned that the initial x-rays taken in the Kokugikan clinic did not indicate any fractures or ligament tears, but more detailed scans were set to take place at a hospital at a later time, there hasn't been any further update yet.

Fukai will surely have to withdraw too after that nasty ending vs Kinbozan. Even the shimpan had pained looks on their faces watching that one and the crowd gasped.

Lucky for him, he has 3 wins which means his fall will be light. But still, nasty, nasty injury, and I hope for the best.

That...doesn't sound too good. Hope for the best.

Also Fukai not dropping out for a bout or the rest? Bold move, cotton.

While he is out, he could also deal with his problem of bad hair.  :-)

Three in, three out ahead of the last round of lower division action.

Entering:

Jd20e Ariake

Jd111w Takataisho

Jk2e Nishihara

Withdrawing:

Ms9e Fukai (fusenpai Day 12)

Sd55e Nakaishi

Jd29e Hokutoshin

In addition, Naruto-beya reports that Sd40w Murayama is also out due to injury, but it must have happened too late for the news to reach the torikumi committee, so Hokutomaru should get a fusensho (and kachi-koshi) from their Day 13 bout.

Jk1w Fujiizumi, Jk3e Wakaseido, Jk7w Okuyama and Jk21w Chiyonomichi missed the whole basho and will drop off the banzuke, assuming they aren't retiring.

Now we have Fujishima back as head shimpan at the basho, joint top shimpan Sadogatake is kyujo with an injured left leg. He pulled a muscle when he stepped onto the dohyo yesterday for a mono-ii conference. 3 weeks to recover. https://hochi.news/articles/20220520-OHT1T51105.html

I'm sorry, I know I shouldn't be laughing at misfortune, but this sentence just reads like an overdue April Fools' gag. An ex-rikishi pulling a muscle doing what he used to do best, and needing 3 weeks to recover from it?!

As Indiana Jones might say: "It's not the 53 years, it's the 130 basho."

Hopefully Kotonowaka Jr. isn't too affected by this terrible development. His father is in my prayers <3

When active, he didn't have to wear those ridiculous 3/4 size flip-flops when he climbed the dohyo stairs.

Oh maybe that's why they were reluctant to call for monoii then... looks dangerous :o

Jokes aside, i wish him a nice recovery
