sumojoann 873 Posted April 27 (edited) There are only THREE Makuuchi rikishi who weigh LESS than Wakatakakage (131kg) --- 1) Terutsuyoshi (111kg), 2) Midorifuji (112kg) and 3) Ishiura (119kg). Amazing! Or to phrase it better, ALL of the Makuuchi rikishi weigh MORE than Wakatakakage with the exception of those three! Katooshu 1,904 Posted April 27 (edited) Yep, although different levels of ability, Waka is very Chiyonofuji-ish. Even with that lack of weight he's able to overpower much bigger opponents regularly. You'd have to imagine a large part of this loss is muscle mass -- which to me indicates he's ditched the strength training to the level he was doing it during his ozeki run/tenure. The heaviest I recall him being was 207kg (456 lbs), and as I recall he took a break from sweets for a while in order to lose weight. His wikipedia page was updated on Nov 28, 2021 and at that time he was 206kg (454 lbs). He must be hitting the sweets again or maybe not getting enough exercise due to the pandemic.
