Konosuke in trouble again. And again it's in a bout with Ura and it's almost on the same spot on the dohyo (day 12). He should avoid the low left corner.

Excellent belt work by Meisei - beyond the obvious impact on the yusho race, that was more like the Meisei of a year ago pre-injury, a Meisei who was working his way up the banzuke with some solid, impressive sumo

Wakamotoharu hanging on for a second before the gyoji announcement hoping for a second mono-ii, bit balsy considering he was lucky to have the torinaoshi to begin with, IMO.

Apparently it is true, Tamawashi and Nishikigi's perfect attendance records are being allowed to continue. Which to me means that all those other people who had to withdraw in earlier basho also are having their bout streaks protected. I've got a lot of backwards research to do

Fantastic day, IMO! Very Shakespearean, echoing Much Ado About Nothing in particular.

The san'yaku line much promises to remain unchanged, with Hoshoruy (since yesterday), Abi and Wakatakakage now KK. Daieisho is in limbo, but I cannot see the Committee demoting him. Also, Ichi having lost today give them argument to park him to M1 next basho.

That said, both Takakeisho and Terunofuji wasted a golden opportunity after Ichinojo lost his bout. The former got brilliantly Wakatakakage'd, while the latter did pretty much everything by himself. All I saw was Teru falling forward while Shodai was sidestepping to save his bout somehow. Lucky guy. The Dark Side of the Force was with him.

So... Day 14 much like Day 13 as the arasoi is concerned. Teru and Ichi leading, and 'Keisho one behind. I am eager to know the pairings for Day 15 just to see who is going to face Ichinojo. Either a 7-7 joy (i.e. Ura) or a big score guy, likely 9-5 M11 Midorifuji considering that today he faced M10 Meisei. Terunofuji almost certainly will get Takakeisho for a climatic showdown.

I'm not so sure about that if he still winds up with the yūshō in the end. 12-3Y from M2 getting stuck at M1 would be IMO a bigger scandal than Daieishō getting shafted for sekiwake with his yūshō. 

It seems to always come up but it's not out of the question to put him and Kiribayama as a pair of K2 in the event of his yūshō and Kiribayama getting a KK.

That said, both Abi and Wakatakakage winning now poses a massive problem for the joi, because there is an absolute scarcity of winning records in that area. We are going to see a lot of lucky promotions and probably a lot of big double digit losses next basho as a result.

Match and rematch between Kiribayama and Wakamotuharu were fantastic. 

I'm not quite sure if I'd want a 11-4 three men playoff or a 12-3 playoff more, but it's always fun to see the final days of the Basho escalate like crazy.

I would be the first to be glad for a san'yaku promotion for Ichinojo, but I learned to play low with the NSK. Anyway, this COVID surge will likely freeze many ranks, so the only people bond to go down from the joy (which I understood goes to M5) are Takanosho and Endo. Wakamotoharu could be landed at M5 with a win tomorrow, and Sadanoumi could be left at his spot again with a win and a 7-8. Two spots to be filled in full. Tobizaru with his 8-5-2 has precedence, the other being perhaps Nishikigi again with 8-5-2. But yes, they will likely have to force maths to fill some spots. They always do that, anyway.

Glad to see Ryuden back in makuuchi for a day to clinch the juryo yusho.

I don't routinely follow juryo, so today was my first view of Asanowaka. I think I'm gonna like him!

Two epic bouts from two of my favourites today: Kiribayama and Wakamotoharu. I don't blame the latter for hanging around to see if there'd be a 2nd mono-ii. I wondered if he'd managed an utchari myself.

Completely out of the blue, Meisei was epic against Ichinojo, too.

I can't decide whether Wakatakakage was lucky to get out of that vicious kotonage attempt, or Takakeisho was unlucky not to make it stick...

Shodai's henka made me laugh, and the solitary zabuton he collected to the back of the head made me laugh even more.

Crazy basho, but very entertaining.

They should have ordered more earlier torinaoshi - I thought they must have been happy to prolong the Kiri bout, at least a bit more action in makuuchi, but they had overdone the stretching already. The makuuchi dohyo-iri had been delayed further than planned.

Tomorrow again the start nearly two hours later, both dohyo-iri close to usual times, while in a normal Basho they are 30 minutes early.
