Haru 2022 Discussion Thread (SPOILERS!)

No matter what happens, I really don't like Takayasu's chances. Wakatakakage pretty much had his number so far. It's just so disheartening.

Mitakeumi with 11-4 debute as an Ozeki sure is nothing to sneeze at, especially since he looked mostly good in his matches. I hope he is able to build on that.

Now on to the third act in the Yusho race.

A job well done, indeed.   But I wanted him to take the yusho to start a Yoko run.  :-)

"Lord" Shoudai... what a misterious existence. What the hell!!! Well... it just became even more interesting.

Hot damn! My boy is back with a shot! Gonna be happy either way really, this is the ending I wanted. But come on TAKAYASU!

Like I said, it isn't over until Waka beats Shodai which didn't happen.  The tension builds even more.   Go, Taka!

Poor ol' Kotonowaka must be really upset with his loss now.

I sincerely thank Shodai for showing up to forego any discussion about any circumstances, but I only fear more heartbreak. Maybe Takayasu can get going. It actually looked as if Wakatakakage had the match won right at the Tachiai, but then Ozeki Shodai showed up. Gotta go for that hat shopping btw...

I sincerely apologize to Shodai for thinking he will lose his Ozeki rank for sure after his 0-4 start (then 1-5).   Come on, who among you thought he'd go 9-6?

Play-off is the most direct way. It is good that it will be decided by Takayasu and Wakatakakage themselves.

Objectively this is a very special ending to the basho. Despite the sad viewing in the earlier stages of the basho (Terunofuji injured, Shodai seemingly showing the impact of Long Covid, the Ishiura injury), we've since been treated to a three-man race for the yusho (with three strong rikishi who have never won a basho), and we now have a playoff. One of the more entertaining Day 15s I've seen in recent years.

Given this has gone to a playoff, the yusho condition for the sansho seems a bit mean. This is a yusho equivalent. Same same.

You are quoting the guy who is going to eat a hat, not me for sure. He lost to all the "easy" matches only to win the tough ones in week two... What a turnaround, the guy is an enigma. Whatever he did after the first six days, he should do it more

This is a page out of a Rocky movie - an upstart vs has been.  Come on, Taka.  Show waka what taka can do.

Who cares.  It is not his time.  Let him just watch and enjoy.
