Oortael 137 Posted May 24, 2022 Rikishi W L Suyama 3 0 Kazuto 3 0 Imazeki 3 1 Takahashi 3 1 Machi 3 3 Oyamada 2 3 Wakaonehara 1 4 Yamadaumi 0 4 Ikazuchido 0 2-2 Suyama looked fairly good, but in my untrained eyes Kazuto looked better. Takahashi mostly used his bigger frame to manhandle his opponents. The last 3 probably won't go that high on the banzuke, but at least Oyamada and Ikazuchido can be entertaining.

Feel like Kazuto went under the rader, don't remember his name.
Katooshu 2,401 Posted May 24, 2022 (edited) Kazuto made the best 4 at the biggest high school competition, and in middle school won a national team title alongside Kiryuko - now his ozumo stablemate as well. Edited May 24, 2022 by Katooshu

There you go. Our local amasumo experts always there to provide inside info on prospects ! Thanks sir ! Just noticed Fujita Kazuto was #5 on Mikawa's Class of 2019 prospects behind pros Yoshii and Kototebakari (and also uber-prospect Ochiai).
Akinomaki 34,925 Posted May 24, 2022 The Suyama hype will go on, he had an article even for the final task of the new recruits, tossing the gyoji in the air at the finish of the basho, the kami-okuri ceremony https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2022/05/22/kiji/20220522s00005000582000c.html Suyama on the right
Akinomaki 34,925 Posted June 1, 2022 The local Akita paper had an article on Oyamada http://www.sakigake.jp/news/article/20220525AK0001/ Like the oyakata he has wrestling background, won the 86kg class in freestyle wrestling at the 2020 Asian championships and during his time at Akita commercial high school a national tournament. Naruto is a former European junior wrestling champion, he invited Yamada when he was planning his career after graduation from Yamanashi gakuin university, and he opted for one in sumo: "In sumo the strong are chosen without weight discrimination, I felt a great fascination." Naruto: "His stamina while continuing in keiko is magnificent. He can earnestly do it with great effort. Looking forward to (his progress)." Not a good sign though that he was absent at the start of sumo school On 26/05/2022 at 14:52, Akinomaki said: class 388 with Suyama - Nigerian half Ikazuchido was also there, he was absent due to injury at the shinjo shusse hirou - Naruto's Oyamada was missing, training at the heya seems to promote injuries, rather than preventing them

With Irumagawa, in the photo you posted, set to retire next year, that might give an indication of who's taking over (ex Kakizoe?) - or at least who's handling recruitment duties. One would assume it would at least appear though it will continue as an active heya rather than being folded in elsewhere. Coincidence or not? The new recruit for Irumagawa is Ikazuchidō (雷道). The general tradition of Irumagawa-beya has been to take the stable-master's "Tsukasa" (司) somewhere in the shikona - even as a "ji" in Fuji (宮乃富司). However, you mentioned Kakizoe as a potential candidate to take over the stable going forward. And he is currently Ikazuchi (雷) oyakata. It could be a coincidence, an uchi-deshi of Ikazuchi (who may be branching out) or a new "tradition" of an inherited Irumagawa-beya? All speculation. And could just be a coincidence... or not!
