Amamaniac 2,079 Posted January 28, 2022 Seems to be some breaking news about Mitakeumi getting married(?). Yusho plus Ozeki promotion ... plus marriage! Pretty good month for Mitakeumi and his family.
RabidJohn 1,789 Posted January 28, 2022 (edited) Love him or not, Chris Gould broke the news of Mitakeumi's marriage more than 24 hours before this. The only reason I clicked on his video was because of 'Mitakeumi Marries' in the title... Edited January 28, 2022 by RabidJohn

That news was already posted here a couple days ago, before Chris's video went up, so to say he broke the news is a bit generous Edited January 29, 2022 by Katooshu
RabidJohn 1,789 Posted January 29, 2022 What can I say? I'm obviously not the only 1 who missed that the 'Another Sekitori Marriage' thread had been updated...

Akinomaki 40,535 Posted January 30, 2022 Interesting old video that was posted today: the student championships now Mitakeumi won against now Hokutofuji 1
Katooshu 3,232 Posted January 30, 2022 (edited) Good catch - lots of future pros in that one and fun to play spot them all. Good match between Mitakeumi and Tomokaze at the start! Mitakeumi had quite the swagger in the ams. Also, Sasaki from Nihon University beat Ura and Yutakayama back-to-back - he was a very well-rounded competitor and would have been a good pro. Feel a bit for Hokutofuji there. He wins major, MsTD15 qualifying tournaments in his 2nd and 3rd years, then gets to the finals of the student championship and because he loses had to start ozumo at the bottom. These days, with the 2-year eligibility, he would have started at Ms15TD from his Kokutai yusho, and have a Sd100TD from the runner-up in the above tournament too. Oh well, ozumo worked out very well for him anyway! Edited January 30, 2022 by Katooshu
Katooshu 3,232 Posted January 31, 2022 (edited) Incidentally, while Mitakeumi's been on a hot streak, he's lost 4 of the last 5 meetings against Hokutofuji. I remember when Hokutofuji turned pro he said one of his goals was to catch up with and beat Mitakeumi. I wonder if that student finals match is in his head whenever they're about to face off.
