Maybe it will be a blessing to have the extra time off to heal. :-)

Worth pointing out that the last time he had a basho off for free (Natsu 2020 due to the COVID-cancelled basho), he came back with double digits.

The whole Nishikido beya is kyujo due to the covid protocol. Mitoryuu did not appear today.

Are we sure he wasn't just barred from the stadium due to a paperwork mix-up with Asanoyama?

When I hear him announced, I always thought, "hey, he's on a bit early" and now "oh, is the ban already over" - I can't hear a difference in shikona pronunciation

Five withdrawals from the lower divisions ahead of Day 3:

Ms32e Asonoyama (fusenpai Day 1) - as reported by Akinomaki above, a knee injury in asageiko

Ms37w Fukushima (fusenpai Day 2) - Nishikido-beya is kyujo due to COVID

Ms57e Wakanoumi (fusenpai Day 2) - ditto

Sd87w Iko (fusenpai Day 1)

Jd23e Shinyashiki (fusenpai Day 1)

Nishikido-beya gyoji Kimura Kintaro is also off the torikumi-hyo, and I assume their blanket withdrawal also covers yobidashi Tsurutaro and tokoyama Tokonaka too.

Jiji reports that Ozeki Takakeisho is kyujo from Day 4, no reason given yet. Kiribayama will get a fusensho.

Jiji updated? with Takakeisho out due to right ankle ligament - 2 weeks rest necessary.

I guess that it was at this point:

Dang, that is some unfortunate luck for a promising youngster.

... when he rolled his ankle which made the side of his foot touch the dohyo (mere milliseconds before Ura landed, as you can see), which is why the torinaoshi was warranted.

Lower divisions ahead of Day 5, a pair of rikishi "return" for their first actual appearances, and one more withdraws.

Entering/Returning:

Sd87w Iko (fusenpai Day 1, withdrew Day 3)

Jd23e Shinyashiki (fusenpai Day 1, withdrew Day 3)

Withdrawing:

Ms21e Oshoumi (fusenpai Day 3) - as reported above, a repeat of his left shoulder injury from last basho.

That was my assumption as well, but I didn't want to be the first to make such a remark.

Thank you - sad but predictable. He's been a shadow of himself, I'd even thought makuuchi ruined his confidence.

Anyone know what's up with Hitoshi from Oitekaze?

Won the jonidan yusho, then absent for the last 2 basho.

Amidst a pretty strong crop, no less, even if it felt he lucked out with his matchups at times. Hope that isn't it for him.

Due to a herniated lumbar disc, requiring up to 5 weeks of rest.

It's my fault,  I entered the Torch contest for the first time and guess who my rikishi is!
