76 kilos for Shoran Maki? Kid's gotta eat.

Will let the experts talk about the ones not already mentioned here, as I don't recognize any other names.

Edit: I Missed Kazuki Najima, who is at 67 Kilos...

The only ones I recognize from there are the recruits we've already discussed, though admittedly it's become harder to keep track of high schoolers due to so many fewer national tournaments being held over the last few years.

Sumiki should move up the banzuke the fastest out of that list - I also notice his weight is up 12-15kg from his usual college weight range, which should do him some good.

One recruit Haruto Okuyama (Hakkaku) didn't take the test.

Just today an article appeared on Okuyama - Hakkaku was at his press conference at Asahikawa university high school on the 1st - I guess I'll have to post that later on the Natsu thread, maybe he'll be able to enter the next shindeshi kensa in a few days on the 15th, else maybe Nagoya.

So only 34 passed the height/weight test today, 167cm/67kg or, only for the recent middle school graduates and only at the Haru basho shindeshi kensa, 165cm/65kg. https://www.sanspo.com/article/20220404-JIP27T3AIFMJHP3XVIJWWXXCOQ/

They'll get the medical check -  a complete examination of the heart, with ultrasound examination - and then get some vaccine: tetanus, hepatitis B, measles

Does anyone know if College Yokozuna Keita Kawazoe or Toyo bulldozer Shinsuke Hoshiba would join ozumo ?
Both are 4th year and top prospects.

College Yokozuna Kawazoe would enter Makushita Tsukedashi and Hoshiba would enter Sandanme Tsukedashi for being semi-finalist at the All Japan College Championship 2021 right ?

Right, and likely usable also next year. Nothing was reported about Kawazoe after he was kyujo for the zennihon championships, I guess he isn't fit enough for ozumo at the moment. It is always big news when a tsukedashi joins, so we have to wait  to see if the 2 went on to corporate sumo or will join ozumo.

I held off on a couple of reports due to not knowing which basho they were for.

Joining Tagonoura-beya is 18-year-old Raiki Yamada (山田 嵐希) from Saitama, who has visited the heya several times at the recommendation of an acquaintance who has a connection to it. No apparent sumo experience, instead he has been active in table tennis during his time at Kano Junior High School in Okegawa and latterly at Kitamoto High School in Kitamoto.

Yamada and Tagonoura-oyakata (former Maegashira Takanotsuru) visited the Mayor of Okegawa, Katsunori Ono, to report the news a while back.

Joining Musashigawa-beya is 15-year-old Koki Jo (城 皓貴) from Higashi-Osaka city, Osaka. Now graduated from Wakae Junior High School in the city, he has been active in sumo throughout his school years as a member of Higashi-Osaka Sumo Dojo.

His full name has been merged to create his shikona, with a new given name - he will compete as Jokoki Arata (城皓貴 新, じょうこうき あらた).

Sakaigawa's Tanaka is apparently from Kwansei Gakuin university.

I suppose the Riku Kato report that leads off the Natsu thread belongs in this one after all, although Akinomaki is still correct that Natsu will be the dohyo debut for him and everyone else in this class. :-S

The press conference was on the 7th at the school, but the plan is to have the dohyo debut at the Natsu basho.

Joining Onomatsu-beya is Riku Kato  加藤陸 (18, 187cm, 160kg)  from the sumo club of Kanagawa Industrial high school: "Gambarizing at keiko each day, I want to be sekitori in 4 years, as fast as possible."

He started sumo in high school and was prefecture representative at the kokutai in the open weight division. He is also skillful in ball games like soccer and basketball. He had thought to go to university after graduation, but Onomatsu persuaded him with enthusiastic invitations  to join ozumo.

Dewanoumi-beya introduces its trio of recruits from the Haru class.

15-year-old Akihisa? Sano (佐野 明久) from Kitakyushu, Fukuoka prefecture. 175cm, 132kg.

ATTju01Z_o.jpg

18-year-old Kengo Wakasa (若狭 謙吾) from Sapporo, Hokkaido. 170cm, 84kg.

PfCcPwvv_o.jpg

18-year-old Yuji Yamato (山藤 勇治) from Seki, Gifu prefecture. 174cm, 81kg.

He's the younger brother of the current Yamato, and so the older brother will have his first shikona on the new banzuke - 翠桜. No reading given, Midorizakura is the obvious one but we'll have to wait to know for sure.

Tatsunami-beya recruit Nakasone is from Okinawa. His shikona will be Tatsuosho (立王尚).

Lastly, giving hope to soppu everywhere, is Minato-beya's 15-year-old Najima from Kumamoto prefecture.

They're planning to roll him and Ichinojo together to get two average sized rikishi.

I don't get the 'soup' reference, but he reminds me of that skinny 15yr-old Mongolian kid who became the GOAT.

There are traditionally 2 types to classify rikishi, soppu-gata are the lean and muscular ones, the term is from the thin chanko soup from chicken bones (so they are thin like chicken bones). The other type are anko-gata, the rounded ones, from the round deep sea anglerfish, ankou

Okuyama apparently took the March basho test today not the May one and will be on the banzuke next basho.

So Haruto Okuyama 奥山遥人 (18, 180cm, 155kg -> 179cm, 136kg in the test today) will be in this thread after all. He's from Asahikawa university attached high school and without sumo experience: since age 5 he did judo. After Kyokutaisei and Hokutokawa he'll be the 3rd from this high school to join ozumo and the 4th from Asahikawa city to go to Hakkaku-beya. Last year in June the heya manager Hasegawa saw Okuyama at a judo tournament and invited him to join. His goal is to become the most famous sekitori from Asahikawa high. http://www.hokkaido-np.co.jp/article/664996

73e4ad5d684a50a0b61060cd4ace7ab9.jpg

Edit: as I suspected, due to the influence of Corona, Okuyama didn't appear for the Haru basho shindeshi kensa http://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2022041500853

And the weight loss of close to 20kg is likely also a result of that

Nishiiwa-beya introduces their two new recruits:

On the left is 18-year-old Yuto Sei (清 柚翔) from Miyazaki city, Miyazaki prefecture. He connected with the heya by writing directly to the shisho (former Sekiwake Wakanosato), and joins now after graduating from high school. His shikona will be Wakasei (若清).

On the right is 15-year-old Haruta Tanaka (田中 駿穏) from Amagasaki, Hyogo prefecture. He's the younger brother of Wakatanaka, so instead his shikona will be Satotanaka (里田中).

Later they visited the Kurofune shrine which is near to Nishiiwa-beya.

Shikihide-beya's Oyama will be Oyamazakura (小山桜), while Oshima-beya's Mizuno will be Kyokumizuno (旭水野).

Here is a table with some updated Shikona (from NSK website).  I added birthdays, school info (where available), and other notes.  The red indicates a name-to-shikona change.  It is possible the Kaze tradition goes from Oguruma-beya to Oshiogawa-beya (see Sumki shikona below).

Corrected.  I would have sworn that the rikishi page on the NSK said Asahimizuno yesterday (I was a bit shocked as it contradicted information on this site).  It is Kyokumizuno today.  My reading of hiragana is not THAT bad to confuse the two.

I believe you, in fact if I recall correctly, a year ago "Kyokutaikai" was only corrected to Kyokutaiga after a few days of his debut basho had passed. Maybe it's an Oshima-beya jinx.

There's one other minor error on your list that I found, although I'm convinced it's actually a Kyokai typo:
