At a talk show yesterday to celebrate 150 years of Hochi shimbun and the move of the paper's head office to a location near the kokugikan, Hidenoyama confirmed that he'll have his last bout with his 5 year old son, who loves sumo.

Another highlight of the event: his bout against Goeido for the yusho Hatsu 2016 will be recreated as VR image

Yamashina-oyakata (Toyohibiki) announced today that his intai-zumo will be on January 29th next year in the kokugikan.

Today Yamashina was at the Yamaguchi prefectural office to report his danpatsushiki date to the governor and asked him and the chairman of the prefectural assembly to come and do a cut there. The governor promised to adjust his schedule for that. http://newsdig.tbs.co.jp/articles/-/129792?display=1

That leaves Asashishō/Kiriyama as the only oyakata who has yet to have a rumoured or confirmed danpatsu-shiki date.

Well, I guess Kaisei/Tomozuna now joins this list.

Speaking of which, when do we close this thread, or at least stop adding people to it?

The congestion will go on for a while, but when a danpatsushiki takes place within a year after intai, it should not be added. Kaisei may already be the first to have this.

Kaisei surely deserves a ceremony in the Kokugikan. But if Hakuho's danpatsushiki is "scheduled" to be October 1, 2023, I don't see how Kaisei is going to get his in a year.

The counterpoint is that Kotoyūki jumped the queue but had a relatively private (i.e. mostly kakkai attendees only) ceremony way earlier. If Kaisei opts for something similar we might not even find out till after it's over. I'm holding off on adding him for this reason, as Akinomaki suggested.

Yokozuna usually have a longer time before the danpatsushiki happens, because it is a really big event - Kise had it 8 months after intai. Kaisei will likely have a bit more than Kotoyuki, because his was at the height of the Corona restrictions, but if he really doesn't own the kabu, it might be a modest one. I don't think it will happen within a year, but I think we should wait for a planned date before we add him.

On that note the one more at risk of a quiet ceremony is ex-Asahishō/Kiriyama, since he never was a big name rikishi. I won't do anything about him right now, but if he turns out to have had a quiet ceremony I'll probably remove him from this list, and the photos/vids should go into his own retirement thread.

First strike against that tentative list we saw.

Courtesy of Herouth, who broke the news that Hakuhō's danpatsu/accession as Miyagino will be on 28 January 2023. Hanazumo from the sekitori included, sandwiching Hakuhō's last dohyō-iri and danpatsu-shiki between the jūryō and the makuuchu bouts.

Is that really the best photo they could find from Hakuho's long career? Sort of an startled awkward half-smile.

I'm guessing it was a significant yusho, maybe no. 33, and 'they' probably didn't use it without his approval.

The 75th birthday of his mother. The show will be broadcast live on the net, about 600 cutters are expected. o

ZakZak still thinks Hakuho wants to have a heya in Ginza, an intai-zumo event is mainly to collect funds for the oyakata. The fee for the cutters apparently will be modest, they mention 1 million yen as a first expectation, but likely 100-200 000 yen will be the actual sum. 20 000yen on average for the tickets, 20 000 to be at the party of 1000 guests afterwards. The event may earn him 400 million yen.

He said it may take a few years to have a new heya, so the temporary one is quite for some time. o

From John Gunning's piece about Hakuho's danpatsu shiki

Quote

The picture used for the poster was taken on the final day of the May 2013 tournament, when Hakuho had just recorded a second straight 15-0 title win and claimed his 25th overall championship.

Wow, that's a real tease. A 40 page document. Certainly sounds like an insane amount of advance preparation.

Seeing as his intai was less than a year ago, by Akinomaki's criteria, that would suggest dropping him from this (it also sounds like it'll be a more Kotoyūki-style, quiet event). If we're all agreed, we'll put everything about his danpatsu into his own intai thread?

Well sure, by they I also meant Hakuho himself who certainly had to sign off on the final poster. That makes me even more baffled though,at least from an aesthetical point of view.

I haven't found a thread on him, so we might as well keep him here with the others, his event certainly still is delayed. No mention of intai-zumo, so really just a danpatsushiki, which would make it a small event. The new idea Sanoyama has for this is to even allow people who come that day without reservation to have a cut for a modest fee of 30 000 Yen, including a soft drink and a light meal. He only has invited about 250 so far to have a cut and hopes for 200 more from the general public. As side program while the people wait till he returns with a new haircut, a sekitori talk-show and singing by brother Chiyomaru (and more) is planned https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2022/09/13/kiji/20220913s00005000345000c.html

Today it was Hidenoyama's turn for a talk event - he wants to invite Ukrainian refugees and send them 200-300 tickets via the Ukrainian embassy - maybe Danylo gets selected for this

Danylo YAVHUSISHYN

on March 8th he send a mail to Arata Yamanaka, the captain of the Kansai university sumo club in Osaka pref., whom he got acquainted with in Sakai - Yamanaka watched him there, was impressed and approached the 15 year old, since then they are in contact via social media and Yamanaka told him about Japan and sumo - the mail was: "Can't I take refuge in Japan?". Yamanaka helped him to get a visa as refugee, he came to Japan in mid April and now trains at the club.

His mentor took him to the Nagoya basho where he watched his favorite Wakatakakage live. Yamanaka thinks he is already good enough to reach the best 8 at the All Japan student championships. He wants to go into ozumo as soon as possible, his dream is to reach sanyaku.

ticket sales on the web are over, application by mail is still possible - he will likely get a sell-out

The (free of charge) 3min. VR torikumi experience recreating his yusho bout was shot with the help of Kotoeko https://hidenoyama.jp/event1.html
