Akinomaki 32,217 Posted March 29 I checked the kyokai information pages about the intai-zumo of Aminishiki and Toyonoshima - like already at the one for Yoshikaze, ticket sales are as in the past, all masu seat boxes sold for 4 - Yoshikaze had a few for 2, like it was usual at a basho. For Tochiozan the 4 person masu seats were still sold to 2 persons, the page is from 4 months before the event though, maybe he later tried to sell more. The info for Goeido did not list the ticket situation. Like for the basho, the media no longer reported information about the actual attendance at the events, but the videos show plenty of empty space. I don't think the oyakata so far made a profit with the hanazumo events, Goeido maybe a bit with the fees for the cutters. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

To date since Hakuhō, we haven't had any major sekitori retirement, right? The most in danger on the current banzuke would be Shōhōzan and Kaisei, maybe also Kyokutaisei, but even if they retire now, they'd be closer to their danpatsu shiki than Hakuhō was to his at the point of his retirement. So catching up mightn't take that long; end of 2024 might see the backlog cleared. At the rate of 1 sekitori every basho, well, as long as we don't see more than one major name sekitori retire each basho we'll be fine. He could have been an oyakata at least by basho count, but since he couldn't for other reasons and thus didn't he doesn't need a Kokugikan slot from my understanding. Seiyashi 2,743 Posted May 27 (edited) To be clear, if we're talking Kokugikan danpatsu, do we mean with hanazumo, ticket sales, and the works? Because IIRC Kotoyūki had his danpatsu in the Kokugikan, but it was very subdued and it felt almost as if he just found a weekend where everyone he wanted to invite could make it and go. I am sort of assuming that all those in the list above are going the whole hog, but that won't preclude lesser known rikishi like maybe Kyokushūhō who mightn't be able to pack the Kokugikan to capacity anyway from having smaller danpatsu in the Kokugikan whenever they can do it - and as with Kotoyūki's case, they may or may not be included in this thread afterwards. I don't think Kotoyūki's danpatsu was that delayed for a sekitori danpatsu, so calling it COVID-delayed is eh, but eh. This is basically the megathread for future known danpatsu at this point, where previously it would have been bundled with each individual rikishi's retirement thread.
