Two requests on the Asahifuji kanreki thread so far, so here goes.

Which combination of current/former yokozuna do you think will be ex-Asahifuji's attendants at his upcoming kanreki dohyo-iri? If others, please leave a comment stating the combination.

Implicitly the senior amongst the two will be tachimochi.

Poll closes on October 2nd (the day before the kanreki dohyo iri) or whenever there is any official confirmation of the attendants, whichever is sooner.

Logic behind Kakuryu/Kisenosato: oyakata represent! It's an extremely long shot, to be fair.

Obvious choice is the two yokozuna he's raised.

Yeah, I think we all agree that if Isegahama had complete control over who he would choose, it would be his two yokozuna deshi. The only question is whether he feels unable to choose Harumafuji for any reasons of actual or perceived propriety because of the circumstances of Harumafuji's exit from sumo. I don't think it's so much that he's persona non grata than it's AFAIK unprecedented that someone who exited the sumo world entirely gets to put the white rope back on.

Isn't a kanreki dohyo-iri a private affair anyway? I know if you're not in the kyokai you can't use the Kokugikan, but there's been ceremonies that took place in other locations.

That said, where is Isegahama's taking place, the Kokugikan? Unless there was some stipulation that he could only use the Kokugikan if Harumafuji wasn't one of this attendants, I don't see why the NSK would interfere in who he chooses. There could be other reasons for not using Harumafuji though too I guess. But without knowing anything more, seems obvious he'd pick his two students. Terunofuji seems guaranteed to be one of the guys at least.

Most probably the KGK. I don't think there's an outright rule that you can't pick someone who's left the sumo world, as there's probably never been that exact situation, which is why I hedged by suggesting that Isegahama might not pick Harumafuji out of perceived propriety because he thought it would be awkward to have a non-NSK attendant on the dohyo, in yokozuna regalia no less.

Er. Harumafuji and Aminishiki.

Check the Asahifuji kanreki dohyo-iri thread for details.
