Ex-rikishi arrested for forcible indecency

ex-Jonidan Kaibusho (Asakayama), real name Miura Hiroki (20), was arrested on charges of forcible indecency by soliciting nude images of an 11-year-old girl via LINE. The soliciting was alleged to have happened in March this year (i.e. during Haru basho). He pretended to be a 16-year-old girl to exchange the images with the victim. While he had deleted his LINE history, he has nonetheless admitted to the charges.

ex-Kaibusho only retired just last month after entering sumo at the age of 15. He had had a farewell which was posted on Asakayama-beya's official Instagram, in which it was mentioned that he was retiring for personal reasons. It is unknown whether there was any connection between his choice to retire and the investigations, although the effusiveness of the Instagram posts suggests that if there was any, ex-Kaio (and hence by extension, the NSK) was unaware of it.
