what do you have against him?

There were a number of well-known transgressions he and his twin brother were guilty of.  I will be happy to see him out of ozumo if it ever happens.  He probably lost more fans when he tried to knock Enho out in the last basho.  Ozumo does not need someone like Takagenji.

Those were probably more of Enho fans.

Probably, but I agree he has done enough in the last years to be kicked out from ozumo. I'm not happy when a good wrestler like him is expelled, and I don't support Takanohana beya conspiracy theories, but I think he was looking for it...

Off to MMA with him. If he tried his attitude in puroresu (pro-wrestling), I can guarantee there would be a few old hands that would beat the seven shades out of him pretty quickly (depending on the promotion, of course). There is little no tolerance for stupidity or arrogance in a pro-wrestling ring.

I usually am not interested about backstage happening, but in this instance I read some just to know the context. And apart from the verbal abuse of that attendant (which is pretty widespread), I don't see a reason to hate him otherwise. He made comments on social media about touchy topics? I don't care. He is frustrated after defeats? Not always, i don't remember seeing him throwing a fit or be disrespectful in the dohyo and many others are frustrated too after defeats.

In the end I'd only judge him for smoking weed and the attendant thingy.  Guess I can accept two strikes for dismissal, this weed thing being especially bad.

But people hating him enough to want him out of sumo just for slapping Enho around? That's stupid.

As a side-note and somewhat OT, I just read some BS about NSK being upset with Hakuho about muh being too aggressive slapping Shodai around and armlocking Terunofuji. If they're upset about victory gesture (which they are), is fine, but BS like the above mentioned are unacceptable as accusations. Ban armlock throws and slaps (and see how your viewership moves to watching something else instantly), don't reeee against the man for legit techniques. I hope Cringe Gould is right about anti-Hakuho NSK, cause the alternative would mean NSK in now full of pussies.

Verdict in: https://hochi.news/articles/20210730-OHT1T51178.html

Takagenji to be disciplinarily dismissed, Tokiwayama oyakata to be demoted two ranks from iin to toshiyori (skipping the intermediary rank of iin taigu toshiyori shunin).

The article confirms that he lied to Oguruma oyakata that he had never used cannabis, and only recanted after the results of the drugs test. Apparently Tokeganja has used cannabis 8 times in the past, so despite remorse (really?) the Compliance Committee decided that no special circumstances warranted ameliorating the decision of a disciplinary dismissal.

(I guess if he could have proven that he was kidnapped by the yakuza and forced to smoke a joint on each of those 8 circumstances....)

A good wrestler who's a waste being expelled would be someone a bit more in the class of Wakanoho, Osunaarashi, or even maybe Kotomitsuki (and of course Harumafuji and Asashoryu). At the risk of sounding elitist, I would hardly call a juryo regular who had a couple of makuuchi tournaments, and more well known for his and his twin's antics off the ring than in it, a good wrestler, or a net loss to sumo.

For the record I don't think anyone but the most die-hard of Enho fans (who perhaps aren't too exposed to the brutality of sumo) would think Takagenji deserves expulsion for roughing Enho up. It's sumo, we know what that involves, and so did Enho. It was rougher than it perhaps needed to be but them's the breaks. I'm an Enho fan too, and even though that match was painful to watch it was no basis for expelling Takagenji.

Re respect on the dohyo though, he has the straightest bow of almost all rikishi on a regular basis whenever he loses. It got so bad during his first juryo appearances that Asahisho felt compelled to give him a dameoshi to fix that (albeit in vain, and getting himself a talking to by the shimpan). There is Takamisakari-frustration after you lose - that's frustration with yourself - and then there's what Takagenji does, which is act hoity toity like the opponent isn't deserving of your respect despite beating you fairly. Even Chiyoshoma isn't that bad.

Shunin is the rank in between, iin taigu isn't really a "rung" of the proper ranking structure at all.

So this is a step up from his brother's punishment. Takanofuji was just "advised" to retire so was still entitled to his payoff.

You would think they would be the first set of sekitori brothers to both be kicked out of sumo, but no. Step forward Roho and Hakurozan. (And that was cannabis too.)

I've learned that drug test will be orally administered.

Kyokai: "Did you do drugs?"

Rikishi: "No."

Kyokai: "Okay. Let us know if that changes."

I actually think they won't be doing this (or if they do it'll be a one time thing with a pre-announced date), because weed use is a lot more common among wrestlers than people probably think and doing regular drug tests would only just end up being a scandal generating machine for them.

Why would they? I always thought it's use was common practice.

It has been done, with results.

Are you referring to the past cannabis scandal with the Russians (i.e. drug tests for rikishi have been done before and they have caught drug users), or do you mean they've actually gone ahead and done a drugs test on all rikishi now and the results have come out (i.e. the drug test for all rikishi has now been conducted)?

Anyone called up positive? I'm sure if the results were negative that would be announced in a hurry, and it's also predictable that if the results are positive they will say less until they conclude whatever investigations result from it.

I don't care if he slapped Enho or not, although it was brutal. As you say, that's in the rules, and he can do that, the same as Hakuho does kachiage or Tamawashi uses lethal kotenage. I just don't like how he behaves before and specially after the bouts, not mentioning several scandals out of the basho routine. And that's, ofc, a personal opinión.

Funny, I must have missed the body bags being carted on the dohyo.... (Laughing...)

But otherwise, yes, I agree with all you've said.

Yes. They checked all sekitori, said they intended to continue, but didn't. The Russians were caught, others were questionable.

It was nice of the Kyokai to drop the warning tests might be coming. Weed stays in the body for a few weeks...I wouldn't be surprised if the kyokai "considers" tests for a few weeks and administers them about a month after that statement was made...
