What's the colour of the boathouse at Hereford?

Its a quote from the film Ronin by actor Robert de niro.

I ask again, what does that have to do with it?

The SAS is located near Hereford. I think in the movie this was a test to confirm one characters claim to have been in the SAS.

It's a quote from the movie 'Ronin', a masterpiece with Jean Reno and Robert De Niro.

Someone (played by Sean Bean) is pretending to be a SAS operator (UK Special Forces) and the character played by De Niro senses that the person is lying. So he asks him 'What is the color of the boathouse in hereford'. That triggers an argument where Sean Bean is found out as a liar because he doesn't know.

After the argument, Jean Reno asks 'what IS the color of the boathouse' and De Niro says 'how should I know?'

You DO realize, after all those years, that I think you are an operative of one intelligence agency or other, no?

Guys. if you don't hear from me anymore, "Fujisan's" buddies will have taken me off the grid.

No I can honestly say after all these years,I honestly dont have a clue whats going on in your head.(Pokingtheotherguy...) (Ranting...)

Although I wouldn't accuse you of being in an "intelligence" Agency  you dont meet the criteria...

Are you going to explain why you think that?

For those sf members who dont know  ybf and me have a history on the old fantasy sumo forum.,now all I get are cryptic  comments from him.

There are easy ways to  check I am who say I am.

Starts with my avatar where I am holding  my sumo gaming 2009 world cup.

Here is a cool video from late last year (2020) of Terunofuji weight training in a gym.  He can leg press 1320 lbs, bench press 441 lbs and rack pull 660 lbs!  Two of the comments were unintentionally hilarious.  One person said, "Congratulations to the newest Yokozuna.  Best of luck and bonsai!"  The other said, "Cool Terunofuji.  I heard about his bench breast part but first time really show it haha."

Quite impressive, but as an avid weight-lifter myself it was pretty obvious that he isn't really able to lift 200kg or "even" 180kg clean, the spotter definitely had to help quite a bit, don't think he'd be able to lift it by himself.

Impressive nonetheless.

So, is his first public dohyo-iri going to be in the honbasho next month?

There should also be a debut at Meiji Jingu before that. Perhaps closed to the public.

In normal times that would have already taken place.

I'm sure I read earlier in the thread that it's not going to happen during the current state of emergency, so his first dohyo-iri may well be at the Kokugikan.

It's finally happening.

The NSK has posted scheduled live streams for tomorrow (24 August) for Terunofuji's suikyoshiki (3pm JST) and hono dohyo-iri (3:45pm JST) at Meiji Shrine.

According to Herouth, no spectators will be allowed, though. While that's a massive pity, it's also a treat for us as this is, I believe, the first time they will stream a yokozuna's first dohyo-iri on Youtube, which means we'll also get an official source instead of bootlegs from spectators for a Meiji Shrine dohyo-iri.

Yeah, the worries about Terunofuji's knees were true. That wasn't a very pretty dohyo iri as far as dohyo iris go, but then for people with busted knees those are almost as bad as full bouts, so...

Shame he had to wear the knee braces.

Does anyone know if the kesho mawashi set were new or re-used?

That was Asahifuji's kesho mawashi, which Harumafuji also wore for his own first hono dohyo iri. It's from Asahifuji's Aomori koenkai, which explains the apples on the tachimochi's kesho mawashi.

Yeah, he's going to start each day of every honbasho from now on doing something that clearly hurts his knees.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new variation of the Shiranui dance that doesn't involve the iconic-but-agonising shuffle, if it prolongs his career a little bit.

I never thought I'd get the pleasure of seeing him do a yokozuna dohyo-iri, and in a way, I still haven't.

Shinto religious ceremonies aren't exactly made-for-TV spectacles, are they? A little slow, but I was killing time waiting for an appointment anyway, so grateful for the diversion (and the free wifi). Almost had a tear in my eye when Terunofuji took his rope from Hokutoumi. It really is a comeback story for the ages. Felt privileged to be watching history.

The official digest, which includes the important bits of the suikyoshiki - the decree and the rope handing - and the dohyo-iri itself. Thankfully they've spliced in footage from a better angle.

Also, is it just me, or has Terunofuji put on a fair amount of weight?

Not really, in his competition mawashi, the belly will protrude. What used to be hidden by the top fold of the kesho mawashi will now be displayed fully above the tsuna.
