ArvidMan 3 Posted July 6, 2021 Hello guys, do you know if there are options for betting on sumo matches?
Athenayama 476 Posted July 6, 2021 I guess it depends on where you live and which bookmakers you have access to.
Churaumi 683 Posted July 7, 2021 I don't recall ever hearing about legal gambling on sumo matches here, but then again gambling is a touchy subject when it comes to sumo.
Athenayama 476 Posted July 7, 2021 (edited) It was mentioned in threads but I definitely don't remember where. There were links to articles which were talking about the fact that western bookmakers gave the opportunity to bet on sumo. I think it was during the first covid lockdown period (March-May 20?) when almost all other sports stopped completely. Edit : I found this And my final comment in this thread will be.... I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone to ever bet on sumo. Edited July 7, 2021 by Athenayama

Agree 100% with that advice. If anyone has doubts it would lose all money, try to play the "ODD SUMO" game. If people are still interested in losing their money, just go to a search engine and type "betting on sumo wrestling". A few well known betting companies will show up where you are allowed to bet on sumo.

The vig is set extremely high in that game (25% I think), much higher than one really needs to create a house edge, although necessary because it's algorithmic and thus is going to be easy to find the right spots with a lower vig. There still are people who have lifetime positive scores though. I was one of them for a while, though my -15 is still pretty good given how many basho it was over (I'm counting 35), being practically a break-even. I wasn't necessarily playing for highest cumulative score though, but to just finish with a KK once I got to Ozeki, so you see a *lot* of 8-7s. Once I could basically guarantee that 8-7 (which is easier than it sounds, as the line tended to fall since scores tended to average negative values, so if I was close to falling under, I could just stop betting) I would take larger risks that weren't +EV in order to get a chance at the top ten. It's definitely my favorite out of the "guess who will win" Sumo Games, since it rewards knowing the exact probabilities of rikishi winning, not just guessing who is more likely to win. If I was running my prediction system still, it wouldn't be one of the ones I would cut due to time pressures. I've never seen an actual bookie offer odds on individual matches (did they during last March? I don't recall), and I suspect it would be hard to find legitimate ones that would given that there is an aura of corruption surrounding the sport. I've seen offers to bet on the Makuuchi Yusho, but the odds offered were absolutely laughable. Only Hakuho (and this was 5+ years ago) was anywhere close to his true odds, and those odds needed him to win 2/3 of the time. That actually happened back then, but it's not too exciting to have to risk twice as much money as you're going to win. The odds on all the long shots were just way too conservative, probably because they would get bets even at those awful odds. There was a link once upon a time about a daily fantasy game run by a gambling site, but the random things they threw in that determined your score for the day (how rare the kimarite was, how long the bout was, whether the gyoji's decision was overturned) made it much harder than the free sumo games on offer with Super Banzuke to be able to get information to inform your picks, since they were things that were not as easy to track at best, and completely random at worst. Kaito 194 Posted July 8, 2021 I don't know why we need vig at all in Odd Sumo, given that we're really competing against each other and not the house. But yes, the odds offered are very unfavorable. In a dead even matchup, rather than letting you risk 1 point to win 1 point on either side, you're forced to risk 1 point to win .5 points. Meaning your pick needs to win 2/3 of the time just to break even. A real sportsbook (and one that's not at all generous) would only ask you to be right 55% of the time. As for real sportsbooks offering sumo, there's Marathon, 888, Unibet, William Hill, and something called Bet-Channel? I've never had easy access to them as an American and I think most of them have recently quit the sumo business because it's getting hard to even find odds to view anymore. If you find a bitcoin sportsbook with sumo, let me know.
neonbelly 226 Posted July 21, 2021 The wages of lust are dust. Gambling is haram and I advise against it fwiw.
ArvidMan 3 Posted July 21, 2021 I think you are right, sumo isn't fit for betting. I often bet online but only after I read a review of the casino site here . I don't advise anyone to gamble at all but if you are willing to do it maybe follow my example and read a review or two beforehand.
Athenayama 476 Posted July 21, 2021 (edited) How did we shift from betting (on sumo) to casino sites? Casino games and sites are the biggest scam ! Everyone stay away from that... Edited July 21, 2021 by Athenayama
Lauren116 9 Posted December 21, 2021 (edited) There are people who make big money from them because they know how things work, I am one of them. It is necessary a lot of practice, but it is possible. Even playing on online casinos you can make money, you just need to look for the Best online casinos which offer bonuses and aren't scams. It isn't difficult to find them, you just need to be very attentive and look for some guides that can help you and read many reviews before trying one.
